hamster-girl Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Hey guys, Short story of my break up - exboyfriend left me, he met someone new, and kicked me out of our home. Once he told me it was over, I never spoke to him again. Deleted his number, blocked him on social media and worked on getting on with my life. He sent one text message after the break up apologising, but I deleted and ignored it. That was a month ago now. I'm starting to feel better through NC. However... a couple of times a week I dream about him. Last night's was really upsetting. I dreamt we were snuggled up watching TV together and he told me he loved me. I woke up feeling I'd been dumped all over again. Am I alone in this? Do you guys dream of your ex's, despite otherwise doing well in trying to get over them?
EgoJoe Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Dreaming is a sign of healthy emotional processing. Acknowledge the dreams for what they are. The subconscious speaking in a language it knows. Imagery and emotions. I dreamt of all my exes when I was moving on healthily. 2
Eranthe Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Yes I have had several dreams of my ex. It's been three months for me now ... I'll think I'm doing quite well for several days and then I will have a dream. All the dreams are the two of us together happy and in love ... feeling warm and tender towards eachother ... as I wake up I realize it is a dream and it is heartwrenching. Despite the progress I feel I have made, these dreams can have me in tears before I even get out of bed. You're not alone x
hunk Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Yep, i think most everyone dreams about their ex especially during the fresh stages of a breakup. I used to wake up from these dreams at like 4am literally wanting to die so i could just go back into them, and would never be able to get back to sleep. (sorry for the melodrama:lmao:). They gradually lessen in frequency but you'll still have them, they won't mean as much as they did and you'll learn to just deal with them. I dream of my first girlfriend often even though i'm totally 100% over her.
jen1447 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Dreaming is a sign of healthy emotional processing. This exactly. You pretty much have to dream about emotional strife in order to get over it. Get used to it - they'll be there for a while.
Seeker12 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Usually have dreamed of my ex when i was stressed/worried over her, in my dreams its all happy days, just saying.
EgoJoe Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Since I left my Ex as a result of infidelity and the fall out was an emotional meltdown on her side. My dreams were not sweet and happy. They were graphic and weird. They stopped fairly quickly. I moved on from that mess pretty fast.
