How many of you have come across a profile of someone you are friends with, or actually know on a dating site?

Over the winter I saw the profile of 3 women I know personally. I havent seen them or talked to them in years because they were friends of friends in my social circle at the time. The funny thing though, I messaged each of them, just a friendly "hello, how have you been?". . . and all 3 of them closed their accounts either later that day or the next day.

In an interesting coincidence, a LS'er who introduced me to a Jewish dating site she was on caused me, being the inquisitive guy I am, to punch in the local zip code to see what Jewish ladies showed up (this friend was across the country so different place) and lo and behold a friend and fellow business owner of my exW showed up, which was a bit of a shock since the last time I saw her was before we were divorced and I did some assembly on her facial table at her shop. Kind of a 'blast from the past' thing.

Other than that, nada. Women generally aren't single around here for long enough to get chance sightings.

Were they married?

I am almost sure none of them were. I think maybe it was that shock of someone that they know seeing them on there, and ditching the profile out of embarrassment. Or maybe the realization that they hit rock bottom once they saw that they were in the same company as me

Honestly though, the area I live in is very outdated, and behind the times. Do you remember when online dating first came out, and people looked at it as just a bunch of weird creepers meeting people online? I think thats kind of how its perceived here. People in my area are not the types to embrace new mainstream thinking. Whereas people that live in large metro areas see it as the norm to use social media for dating and or hookups nowadays.

Being in New Zealand the pool is a lot smaller here. I saw my ex brother in law, my oldest boys dad and one of my married workmates on one of the local sites!

I had a lot of fun with the ex bf & ex brother in law, as my profile had no photo at the time. I did let on who I was pretty quickly.

The workmate is still on there trawling for a fling and he's still married and still asking me to fool around with him even though I've been saying no for 8 years now!

One of my employees is apparently a 89% match!

We know we are both on there but we do not discuss it in front of others. Its a respect/ privacy thing! We have had a giggle about it though.
