Let's says the guy was friends with people in the group, how likely will it be that he brought the girl that he met as a first date? Or is this uncommon? Wouldn't most guys meet up for coffee, dinner first, then meet with friends on the second date?

I would think it odd. A date is a one on one thing not some group dynamic.

In the US I would agree, but in many Euro countries dating is done in group settings. In fact, some never "date" and never have a "boyfriend" they just hang out and romantic things happen.

Anyway, if it's a girl he will be meeting for the first time then it could be strange. However, if they are already acquaintances who are going on their first date then it would fine to me.

That being said, I recently took a girl to a meetup for a first date, sort of! I met her an hour before the meetup so we could chat a bit, then we joined the meetup for the rest of the evening.

I think it'd be okay after like the 3rd date, and probably only after you've developed good rapport with each other (touch, etc.). Otherwise you might be handing your date on a platter to another guy :p

I don't think meeting with friends is even a 2nd date activity. The first month (at the very least) or two should be one on one IMO.

Meeting with friends is something you do in high school.
