Reysa09 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 My honey is leaving for school in August in Florida...about 6 hours from me. He'll be there for 2 years... I need some hope. Anyone that has a successful LD relationship out there ?
DoesntGetIt Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Had one for several years while I was in the military, had some ups and downs. After the military we moved in together, got married years later. Recently we got divorced after having been married for over 2 years and having been together for 13 total. Had nothing to do with distance at that point, so it can work. But both people have to be 100% committed. It is far too easy to stray otherwise.
Buddhist Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I've had three, all of them ultimately tanked, even though I was engaged to one of them too. Basically unless the separation is short-term (6 months max) the chances of it lasting are slim to none. If your relationship isn't even that serious at the time of separation you can expect your status as girlfriend to last about 3 weeks or so. My advice is don't even waste your time. Agree to break up, have relationships with people close at hand and if you're meant to be, then your paths will cross again at a more convenient time.
d0nnivain Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 One of my college roommates is married to her high school sweetheart. She went to college in PA. He went to school in Montana. For grad school he was in NJ. She was back in Pittsburgh. They got engaged. She moved to NJ. He graduated. They got married. He went to medical school. She supported him. They have been married for 20+ years & have two great daughters who are your age. That is extremely rare. Good news: you have lots of ways to keep in touch. My friends had snail mail & a once per week phone call because long distance calls used to be expensive. Bad news: most relationships don't survive the transition from HS to college & it's not the physical distance that kills them. For now don't worry about the future. It's too far away. Concentrate on prom, graduation & having the summer ever. August will come & you can worry then.
