You sound really cool, actually!

I think so, too! Thanks! lol

I think they look good and are fitting for certain occupations and hobbies. But, I would be shocked if I hired a lawyer and he showed up in court with a short sleeve dress shirt with two full sleeves of tattoos.

There is a dress code in court so you could easily hire a lawyer with two full sleeve tattoos and never know about it.

It wouldn't make him or her any less of a good lawyer...

Most of us tattooed folks aren't idiots too. I have co-workers who wear certain types of shirt that I would never wear because with my style and tattoos, it just ends up looking like trash.

But I have plenty of work clothes who show my tattoos.

Tongue piercing : slutty and trashy

Tramp stamp : she gets "hit "from the back alot .

I might be a little judgemental but what are the possible reasons for a to tongue piercing or nipple ,vaginal piercing

Just liking how it looks?

I don't judge and some of them really are very clever and artistic but I just... I like the people I date just as they are. I don't need them to have stuff on them to make them look pretty I like them as they are... I hate ear rings on men because I like to nibble ears and when you get randy at 4am and you roll over to see if you can wake them up and get a mouthful of metal instead of skin - its just not nice...

Interesting you say you like people 'as they are'.

You not liking the look of tattoos means you wouldn't like me 'as I am'.

I get what you're saying but I think a lot of people see something in tattoos that just isn't there.

My tattoos don't change who I am - my personality, my values, my beliefs - they are a part of me and they're there. FOREVAH! lol

1 tattoo and 1 piercing means nothing IMO.

Posted

I have 8 piercings in my ears and my belly pierced so mine are all quite subtle. Most people love my belly piercing, other people don't. I love all my piercings so I don't care.

I don't have any tattoos. My dad has 2 so I was always open to them. I have flirted with the idea of getting one but always changed my mind so probably won't.

I really don't think it matters if someone has a piercing or tat. Tats and piercings mean dif things in dif cultures i.e. in Maori culture many women had facial tattoos; this was a symbol of strength and wouldn't be seen as unattractive to their men. In Western cultures tats were largely affiliated with the lower classes, sailors and criminals so that is why for some people, that prejudice remains. Obviously all of the try hards with tats don't help either.

I'm usually curious by peoples tats. I don't tend to find lots of piercings or tats attractive on either sex but that's a matter of attraction, rather than judgement.

You only have 1 tat so I don't see why anyone would judge you for it. People are odd

I give you, the tattooed model Rick Genest. He did this commercial for Dermablend, which I think is relevant to this conversation because Genest is tattooed from head to toe. He was featured in the

, he walked in the Thierry Mugler fashion show as a male model at 1:48, and I see nothing wrong with his artistic expression via his all-over body tattoos. Tattoos, body piercings, wooden stretchers for ears, nose ring, earrings on men, heck even artificial limbs; none of that bothers me. I look beyond the physical appearance. Everyone has their own definition of beauty. That's just me.

And, I hate the "stretching" of the lobes - both male and female.

I actually have stretched lobes and nobody knows. Nobody can ever tell cause I keep them small. I take them out Everytime I shower and wash up my ears. By the time I'm Outta the shower theyve shrunk back up to normal ear size.

People just can't tell at all!

I just like having so much more jewelry variety. The pieces available to me are just SOOOOOO pretty.

The Caribou barista where I get my morning decaf mocha has stretched earlobes and tattoos. I guess I always go for the anarchist, bad boy, rebel, nonconformist types of men but since I dress conservatively, they probably judge me as being stuck up and stuffy. If they only knew...

Is that a good thing? Caring how one is perceived, the respect of one's fellow man, is a universal characteristic in societies... are you sure you thought that statement through?

I think people get tattoos for the opposite reason... because they do care how they are perceived. They believe that it will enhance their image in the eyes of certain people they relate to, at the cost of detracting in the eyes of others. They are effectively choosing the class to which they relate and wish to belong––an in-group/out-group expression. Interestingly, the emphasis always seems to be on whether or not one has a tattoo, and not the message or content itself.

Not that I'd call it definitive, but I found one research report relating to Differences in Personality. Attributions Toward Tattooed...

I think it is good for a person to not care too much about what others think of their physical appearance. I am thinking of this girl I knew who wouldn't wear sparkly lip gloss because her boyfriend didn't like it. That sort of thing, I do not agree with. However, I do agree we should consider how we appear to potential employers. If someone is planning to be a politician, they will need to be more careful about the placement of a tattoo, if they get one at all.

You do have a point about those people who get tats to fit in or to look cool. I can see teenagers doing that. But you could easily argue that those people don't care about being perceived as people who got tattoos because they care what people think.....

Seriously?

Well, yes, I reported the truth about my (actual coworker) who at least caused ME to hear for the first time of the idea of a circular tramp stamp which says "set beer here".

I do not know whether he conceived of the idea, or if he got the idea from elsewhere...

so I guess the answer to "Seriously?" is "authentic/serious/yes"

Oh he knows! Haha! He knows me as "anti-bean" because I always turn down the extra bean that you get with the Caribou coffee.

I guess I suffer from the Sandra Bullock-Jessie James syndrome, because I prefer to date men who don't always fit in or follow societal norms. But I don't want to marry a guy like Jesse James, who is going to take Nazi photos of himself, have a history with hookers, and be a general dirtbag or have a prison record or past as a drug addict or alcoholic.

Loveshack loves a girl who washes-up her ears.

Though, from reading the above, maybe you meant that quite literally.

Anyone who judges a person by their looks like this should be put in a fire..

You are missing the point - nobody here IS judging a person by their looks.

Instead they are judging people by their choices which is, and will always be fair game.

Oh no, Jesse James and that skank he cheated with Von-whatever? Now "those" two are an example of tatts on "below-low" types of people. Both of them look so sleazy that to touch them you'd have to wear a full body condom and dental dam.

You could place a temporary tat with the saying, No Beans on your bicep and mess with Caribou guy. I remember my Grandmother had circular clip ons that could put many Lobes to shame.

Yep! No one cheats on Sandra Bullock. I mean, seriously!

Haha I like the way you think SleekArchitecture! My ears are pierced already, and I like the temporary tattoo idea. I love tattoos on other people, but I know I would not wear them well.

Oh, I am not a fan of Sandra Bullock...her and James brief "union" was an odd coupling to say the least.

Was it odd? I don't see Bullock as the straight and narrow type, despite the goody two shoes characters that she portrays in her movies. I think Bullock has an edge to her. So, I could see her attraction to Jessie James (albeit misguided b/c yeesh that guy has neon signs "danger..danger..." emanating off of him).

Well yes, that "is" my impression of her. Someone so uptight and lack of personality/charm.

But still, an edge to her?

Dating a guy like Jesse James, IMO, screams, "I hate myself".

:lmao: That made me laugh out loud. I think she was swept away (like Madonna's movie career when she made that movie) by Jessie James' edginess. Remember, Bullock is buddies with Clooney and they've openly reminisced on their past partying ways in their acting circle of friends. So, I think there's more to Bullock than she lets on. Her outward demeanor may emanate someone who is uptight and lacking charm, but I don't think that's who she really is. I don't know her obviously. I'm going by my impression of her from interviews she's given. She seems very carefree, very open-minded, very easy-going, very likeable.

Look, I don't want to marry a bike shop owner. He (whoever that turns out to be, if ever) just has to share my "values" and have similar views on things and be "different."

I work for the national provider of health services in the UK, our policy states that tattoos 'should be covered where possible' but it's very open minded, if someone had a wrist or lower arm tattoo they wouldn't be expected to cover it, plus we have a bare below the arms policy for infection control so they'd rather a tattoo be on show with hygienic skin than covering up!

I have five tattoos, all but one are extremely prominent and bold, no subtle stuff here, they all mean something very very dear to me, and I am done now. It's not hard to cover them as they're on my upper arms, shoulder and upper back, but some sheer clothes do show there's something there, but no detail. If somebody has a low opinion of tattooed people i couldn't care less, I'd feel they were likely to be closed minded, judgmental and ultra conservative but that's allowed lol. I love mine and they mean so much to me, I forget they're even there most of the time and feel surprised when I realise someone would look at me and see a heavily tattooed woman! I do cover them around patients because otherwise they can be a major distraction and end up talking about them rather than the purpose of the appointment, and as one is very ideologically based it would spark too much debate and interest. But as much as I respect someone's right to judge me as a professional based on those (and my facial piercings, which are visible) I also refuse to act as though I'm less capable than someone without tattoos and piercings. If somebody refused to work with me based on them, my employer would back me up I think, but I can't imagine it ever happening as here in the UK tattoos are extremely commonplace and not remotely shocking or rebellious. I see colleagues with tattoos every day, I'd go as far as to say the majority, and we are all registered professionals working in mental health social care.

I'm sure some people have quietly judged me in a negative sense for the tattoos, but they're worth it. They're unique, nobody else has them, they represent extremely important parts of my life I will never be at risk of losing or feeling differently about, they make me happy every time I see them and I've only ever had compliments either on the tattoos themselves or on my passion for what they mean being so strong i want to publicly commit to that for the rest of my life. It has never harmed my professional career before even when Ive had them on show, and I guess they just feel 'right' on me. I do sometimes wonder why people get a random tattoo from a sheet on the parlour wall that means nothing to them but I don't judge. Some people like them for decoration, some for meaning, and that's all fine. The choice whether to have them or not is valid, although I wonder how on earth someone could be offended by someone else choosing to have tattoos or to show them when they wear certain clothing. It's really none of your business unless it negatively effects you or your business in some way.

Forgot to add (this seems to have started a debate about workplace not about bein seen as 'easy' haha) if a guy saw me as 'easy' or 'trashy' for having tattoos it would be such an instant huge red flag and turn off it'd be no loss to me anyway. It's one of those things where it wouldn't be a bother to either me or the guy as we'd just be ideologically incompatible in such a fundamental sense neither of us would see it as an issue! I couldn't be with someone so judgmental and uptight even without the tattoo issue, even though it's totally fine not to be attracted to someone for that or any other reason.

Haha I wouldn't worry about being 'cool', tattoos are so ubiquitous now they're as cool as brushing your hair or wearing makeup :p most people I know with tattoos have ones with very deep meanings to them. The people with random pictures like an ankle dolphin or a wrist butterfly do regret them though. My criteria was even when I am older and the tattoo doesn't look so good anymore, will I still be proud to wear it because of what it means. So I wouldn't be getting anything random and meaningless. But that's not to say all people with decorative tattoos regret them, just some I guess.
