Gloria25 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) I was up late (like most nites) working on my projects and tonite will probably do the same. Anywho, while I was disappointed last Law and Order ended around 3AM, I was delightfully surprised to see one of my fav actors, Patrick Wilson in "Little Children". I've seen advertisements for it, but was like "meh". Anywho, while I will watch the 1 1/2 hr of it left, I already saw where this is heading and I ask myself "why" people in RLs - especially women, do this over and over. -Men are simple creatures. They need sex, food, and for you to make them feel like a man. -Patrick Wilson is married to Jennifer Connely, but she's the breadwinner, he's "Mr. Mom". She rarely has sex with him and prefers to have their toddler sleep with them. Then, she treats him like a child by asking him if he really needs men's/fitness/parenting magazines cuz they are on a budget. Oh, and looks like they got her mom helping them with bills. So, Patrick Wilson gets sorta into an affair with Kate Winslet - who is playing a very frumpy character. So frumpy when Patrick in his mind compares Jennifer to Kate, you feel bad for Kate, but laugh cuz it's so funny to see how men think. -Now Kate, her husband jacks off to online porn and undies of porn stars cuz Kate is so frumpy. Well, instead of Kate dressing up for her husband, she's more intrigued with Patrick. -Patrick finally starts getting interest in going back to sports and "bettering" himself cuz Kate gives him what Jennifer doesn't - which is Kate makes him feel like a man and sexes him. -Kate gets the "attention" she had stopped getting from her husband. -Patrick was very reluctant to start this up with Kate, but again, men are simple creatures. They just need sex and attention. They need women to treat them like "men" and inspire them to grow....not to treat them like little boys and/or emasculate them. Lessons learned: -Women: Just sex your man - yes, it "is" that simple. Treat him like a "man". All, this "partner" nonsense is gonna kill your marriage. And, a hooker and/or a frumpy woman is going to be taking your man's attention away from you. -Men: "Be" the man. Don't let a Jennifer type talk you into a becoming a "Mr. Mom" and/or becoming a "partner". Fighting biology is only gonna result in you feeling like less of a guy and just like Jennifer's libido drop, she'll start seeing you as less of a man and/or her "pet" and/or "errant little boy". -Couples: don't go outside of your relationships to get what you're missing (like Kate). So, tonite I hope to watch the rest of the movie. Curious to see how it ends. And, I'm enjoying the movie so far. Love it when the narrator like talks explains what Patrick is thinking like 'I shouldn't do this' or like 'I hope I can have sex with Jennifer to forget that kiss with Kate' or 'Jennifer's breasts are sooo perfect' Makes me smile to see what may be going through some guy's heads...lol Edited March 17, 2015 by Gloria25 1
GorillaTheater Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I saw some of it. Pretty hot sex scene on the washer. I think I was primarily left with the impression that Patrick needed to get his sh*t together. Of COURSE he didn't want to study for the Bar, who the hell does? It was f*cking miserable. But if he doesn't want to be a lawyer then he needed to get off his ass and find something else. I don't feel like touching the adultery angle right now. 1

Patrick was taking a laid back role, but am curious to see if that was cuz Jennifer and he decided that cuz men and women can flip roles, she'd become the breadwinner while he took care of the child. And, IMO, that's what's bad with the women's movement. You tell men you'll be the breadwinner and/or "pay your part of the bills" cuz it's a "partnership", then don't be surprised when guys lose motivation to do anything with themselves. Yes, the washer scene was hot, but then hello, Patrick Wilson But, I also loved the awkward parts like where they were hesitant to kiss and in the middle of him boinking her he sorta stops and is like 'this is wrong...should we do this?'
GorillaTheater Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It's purely anecdotal on my part, and I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions, but generally speaking from what I've seen IRL and on a couple of relationship boards, SAHD roles are risky. There does seem to be a tendency for the working wife to lose respect for the house husband. And that can be absolutely lethal to sexual attraction and even love. But I hold the husband, not the women's movement, responsible for that dynamic. Not that I'd know for sure; I haven't been unemployed for longer than a week since Carter was President. 1
Author Gloria25 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 I finally saw the end of the movie and glad both Patrick and Kate wised up and ended the affair - but at the same time the movie took a corny turn to reach to that point.... I don't get how some people who start/enter into affairs think that if they run off with the OW/OM, that they aren't gonna repeat and/or have the same issues they had in their marriage. I mean, yea, sometimes in an affair you get what you are missing in a SO, but at the same time, sometimes what you were "missing" in that SO that you were having in the affair isn't enough to sustain a real/practical RL. I mean, there was a point in the move where Kate wanted more and I was like "noooo, just see him on the side!!!" I knew of a woman who's son left his wife and three kids, to go and shack up with some woman and her three kids. To me, that doesn't make ANY sense. I don't know the reasons why he left his wife, but if it was to escape the responsibilities and practicalities of having a wife and three kids, why run to a woman who also has three kids? Now, he's gonna have to split his time between his own kids and his newly inherited step-kids...worst, his kids will probably grow up feeling crappy that their dad left "them" to set up shop with some woman and "her" three kids
Radu Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Lessons learned: -Women: Just sex your man - yes, it "is" that simple. Treat him like a "man". All, this "partner" nonsense is gonna kill your marriage. And, a hooker and/or a frumpy woman is going to be taking your man's attention away from you. Agreed ... but keep in mind that even though the situation in the relationship is joint fault ... going outside the marriage is sole fault on the one who does it. I think you can still keep some semblance of your manhood and still be Mr. Mom. But this is conditional on her being willing to do this as well. If she associates manliness with being a provider ... and nothing else ... you are screwed. -Couples: don't go outside of your relationships to get what you're missing (like Kate). So, tonite I hope to watch the rest of the movie. Curious to see how it ends. And, I'm enjoying the movie so far.
