alexwood Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 so this girl i'm really into was talking to me. i asked what she'd doing tomorrow night and she said she has a "dinner date" ok what does that mean? is it a date with a guy or could it be shes meeting a friend for dinner like they made plans a few weeks ago and its just called a dinner date?
carhill Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Pro tip: If she was sincerely interested in dating you, she'd never mention a 'date' of any sort with someone else. Pay special attention to the word 'sincerely'. There are plenty out there who will let you date them. Yikes! 2

Fhsjkfjrhsdh3646 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It means she's getting ****ed by another guy and you stand no chance. Move on. 2
Doglover0261 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I had to lol at the OP even asking this question 2
Assada Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 why are you asking us this question? it means what she says. she's going to dinner with someone. Next time when you see her, ask her "How was your date?" 6

Next time when you see her, ask her "How was your date?" because i dont wanna be like "how was your date" when it was just a girlfrind she was meeting
writergal Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 so then ask her, "how was your night?" and leave it at that. Good lord dear, if you like her, ask her out. And by ask her out, I mean, ask her "would you like to take a carriage ride with me 'round the lake after supper this evening? I'd like to show you the moon and stars." Or, you could just ask her to meet you on campus (assuming you're in college) for a bite to eat and start there.
markthemango Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 she could be getting together with a girl friend for dinner. they have made plans ahead of time hence the "dinner date" talk
Redhead14 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 so this girl i'm really into was talking to me. i asked what she'd doing tomorrow night and she said she has a "dinner date" ok what does that mean? is it a date with a guy or could it be shes meeting a friend for dinner like they made plans a few weeks ago and its just called a dinner date? She's going out to dinner with someone Period. It's none of your business at this point. You asked her for a date, she couldn't make it then. What you should have done is ask her if she's available on another day. Better yet, would have been for her to say I can't make it tomorrow, how about ____day? The ball is still in your court. Contact her again with an invitation for another day and have a specific plan. If she says the same thing or doesn't offer another option. I'd move on from her.
acrosstheuniverse Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 My girl friends, and male friends for that matter, sometimes use 'dinner date' or 'coffee date' as just a term for a planned coffee or dinner, with anyone. I wouldn't tell a potential date that though without making it clear it was with friends. I think she's trying to make you jealous and make you think you have competition. If you wanna play this game, don't let it bother you, don't ask about the night or who it was with, ignore it and continue the pursuit. Ask her out on a date. 1

carhill Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The OP asked the lady what she was doing 'tomorrow night'. She responded 'I have a dinner date', which aligns with what one does at night. As an alternative example, had he asked her to lunch, she could have responded 'I have a lunch date'. IME, women don't mention the word 'date' casually. In my generation they might mention 'social event' or 'dinner plans' or 'social engagement' or similar. Never 'date' unless it's a get together with a gentleman they're interested in romantically. Hence, while YMMV, if a woman is interested in dating the man in front of her, she's not going to risk him perceiving rejection by mentioning her 'date' with someone else, even if she is going on a date with someone else. I learned about this social nuance while dating women who multi-dated.
Fhsjkfjrhsdh3646 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 As far as the "dinner date" referring to something other than an actual date, no girl in their right mind would phrase it that way if she liked you as more than a friend. 1
carhill Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 OP, if encountering this again, communication is your savior. Simply ask: 'What does that mean? Are you currently dating a man?' Listen. 1
markthemango Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 op i believe its meeting for dinner with a friend
PogoStick Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 For real, why would she mention it? As a way to to tell the OP she's not interested without actually having to say it. She's trying to be nice and not reject him, instead hinting she is unavailable.
d0nnivain Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It means a guy she likes is taking her on a big deal date: out for dinner. It is romantic. It is not platonic. It's not a coffee date or meeting for ice cream. It's not a 1st meeting off OLD. It is a classic proper date with a man. There will be ambient lighting & probably a good night kiss or more. If she was sharing a meal with somebody she would have described using any word other than "date." If all of that is not true, she's playing games with you & trying to make you jealous. Either way, she's not someone you will be dating.
Assada Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Even if she was going out with another guy, that shouldnt deter you. All you know is that she may have had dinner with someone. THAT IS IT. So ask her out after you see her. Doesnt matter where or with whom she did what

No girl would do that to a guy who has potential with her. 1
sandylee1 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I'd say she has a date for dinner, with a guy. If she was going for dinner with her girlfriends, she would have said, or I would say " I'm going out with friends or a friend ". She's probably not interested in that way.
