On 3/1 I sent this message to a woman:

"You have a nice profile and I'd like to know more about you. I enjoy traveling too, so where do you like to go? How's the online dating world treating you?

~ Brian"

This afternoon I finally got a reply and she said this:

"Hi Brian

How are you?

I'm looking for a serious relationship and possible marriage in the future. And I'd like to meet in the near future.

do you like ice cream? :)"

I went to reply this evening and her profile is gone! It had to be a paid account since it was on Match. What's up with this?

Is your subscription about to run out?

I found when my deadline was upcoming I had a deluge of fake profilers sending messages... Even after I made my profile hidden and it expired - match sent me tons of emails saying if been "viewed" and I had received "messages" from interested men.

I think they do it so you stay paying.

Maybe she's messing with you and then blocked you because she's not interested.

I've got a couple months left so it shouldn't be that. It also doesn't show that she's viewed my profile. It still allows me to reply to her message so I'll go ahead and see what happens. Is it possible she hid her profile for some reason?

What's up with everyone going for ice cream for first meets?

This is like the fourth thread (not just on this board) where folks are suggesting ice cream for first meets....

Not knocking it....it actually sounds fun. And you can get a real sense of who someone is by what flavor they like too....

I'm going to start doing that, I friggin love ice cream. Who wants some Ben & Jerrys?

As for the OP, no one opens up a first message like that, 100% fake. "I want to get married. Want to get some ice cream?"

I've never met someone over ice cream but it sounds like a good idea, but maybe not when it's been cold outside!

Yeah, I've never had a women be the one suggest meeting so it's probably fake. I'll respond anyway just in case though, haha.

^ ^ ^ THIS ^ ^ ^

Totally agree - 100% fake...

No offense OP, but that was a pretty bland opening email. If you did get ice cream, would you choose vanilla? :D However, luckily it was a scammer you sent it to, and not an actual profile. This is just my opinion of course, but you might want to liven up your opening emails a bit.

The most obvious sign of a fake profile is only having one picture.

well, it's one way to weed out those who want to hit it and quit it...

Maybe that was her way of saying your opening message sucked. ToO General. What is nice about her profile? What about traveling? Be specific!

Ice cream! That's classic.if I go back to OLD, I'll have to use it.

HAHAHAHA!!

Getting eerie Katie. One thing I have on my dating profile when talking about the type of woman I'm looking for is "Extra credit if you pass the ice cream test." Can't remember where I read it. but an article was talking about basic psychology personality assessments. If a woman likes a plain ice cream flavor, she might be boring. If she wears grannie panties or boy shorts, probably not a freak in bed, etc..

So if I'm interested enough to take a woman out and she asks about the ice cream test, I'll use it as a segue. "Join me for ice cream and I'll see how you do in person." Ice cream is definitely up there for enjoyable things for women with shoes, shopping, and chocolate. So an ice cream first date is an inexpensive way to get her around something she enjoys.

Also, for some reason, a lot of the women I've trained over the years have a fantasy about being approached in the frozen foods section at the grocery store..LOL

I've occasionally received emails from someone on match, who then hides their profile. It's rare, and I think the vast majority of profiles and people are real - I've had hundreds of real, ongoing exchanges with women on match. Most likely, she decided to meet someone else and went dark while she checks them out, or got some nasty emails and has pulled back to get over it.

Some accounts are free trial memberships, and will go dark when the trial expires.

Honestly with OLD I don't think it matters one bit if I throw in a couple of specifics. Sometimes I'm more general like this but most times I'm more specific. I've seen no difference in the results. Compared to the messages I receive from most women on OLD I'm like Shakespeare, lol.

I was on Match for about 2 weeks and met my boyfriend.

I received about 125 messages....15 or so were obvious fake profiles. Perhaps a couple others were too. I'm sure there are scammers who sign up, spam as many women as possible, then are banned. Their profiles 'disappear'.

All they needed is one vulnerable woman in thousands to respond to start getting a return on their $30 sign up fee.

what's up with this. well match gets these "operatives' who create fake profiles with attractive pictures of both men and women. they then use these fake profiles to email and wink at regular members.
