Has anyone ever dated someone with OCD Tendencies? I was told last night by this guy I've been seeing for 5 months now that he has OCD Tendencies, which I have noticed myself. I he told me that sometimes he'll walk by not walking on cracks, and something about walking on only the even squares...I don't think it's debilitating OCD pretty mild. He functions perfectly fine when we're together, although I sense distance when I'm with him sometimes and I know now it's b/c he's constantly thinking in his head-never really present.

Anyways, my question is has anyone ever dated/been in a relationship with someone who has OCD? I'm scared and not sure what to do. This might be too much for me to handle.

Do you note his checking behaviors or fixations to distract him when you're together?

Does he seem aware of his behaviors?

I don't believe I've dated any solid diagnosed OCD'ers but do have/have had female friends or male friends spouses who were/are diagnosed.

My takeaway, in total, if giving relationship advice on that aspect, would be to repeat something our psychologist shared in MC, in that, if a behavior interferes with the formation and maintenance of healthy interpersonal relationships, it bears scrutiny.

Since dating is a voluntary activity, ones personal boundaries and freedom of choice have play. Hence, it's up to you whether this is a deal-breaker or not. Everyone is different.

Knowing the people that I do and their level of behavior, I wouldn't be able to date them. As a younger man, I did have more 'flexibility' in such matters but caregiving for a mentally ill person changed that. It's not an option anymore. I'd rather be alone. YMMV!

OCD is used to every sauce these days. If you have dated him for 5 days it has not been an issue for either of you then what is there to worry.
