Canadian95 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I missed out on being in high school because of illness. I'm finishing my high school degree at home but I never got to experience a high school relationship. Honestly I'm still kind if immature for 20, I don't feel like I've had the life experiences to mature myself properly yet. Anyway I live in a small town right now, planning to begin college in September. Well I meet a girl who's 16, she'll be 17 later this year. I turned 20 a couple months ago. I really like her, and I think she likes me too, also I feel like being with her would finally fulfill what I wasn't able to experience as a teen. The legal age is 16 here (even though I don't plan to have sex with her ANYTIME soon no matter what), but is this wrong and creepy? Is this acceptable? Or is it just plain wrong? My intentions are innocent but is the gap too big to not be wierd? And would her peers think it's wierd?

I dont see an issue with the age. treat her nice and have fun together.
WomenWubber Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 It depends of where you live, but if you're thinking about it (for a reason, I suppose), then yes it'll probably be perceived as weird/creepy.
catchthedrift Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I don't think it is weird. I lost my virginity to a 20year old when I was 16. He seemed still very immature at the time, and now that I am almost 30 and look at people I know who are 19/20, I realize that they are just kids. You are still a teen, she is a teen, have some fun!
Fhsjkfjrhsdh3646 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Yeah you're in the clear. Now if you were in your mid 20s it'd be different.

But our society makes general guidelines for us, in terms of what is legal, and once they deem it legal for 16yo's to pick and choose their sex partners then we are correct in allowing them to make their choices within the bounds of the law. When society wants 16yo's to vote - society will tell them. When society wants 16yo's to drink legally - society will tell them. Most of the rest of us will continue to bank on the structure within society to guide the group as a whole, and that is good enough. So go right ahead and enjoy the budding new relationship without any guilt.
Gaeta Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 In Canada sexual consent is 16 but she is by all mean a teenage girl. She is not allowed to clubs/bars or allowed to buy alcohol. She is also fully financially dependent of her parents so they have a big say in what is going on in her life. What do they think of her dating you? It's not because you skipped being a teenager that it's morally right for you to date teenage girls in high school. You say you are quite immature well that's not good news. Do you know that if you go in the liquor store while she waits for you in the car you could be arrested for providing alcohol to a minor? As you know it's taken very seriously.

OP is still a minor himself... ...besides, I doubt this potential relationship has its focus on getting booze at the store. There are other things people like to do in their free time together... come on!
Clockwork Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 If I met my wife when I was 20 she'd have been 16. Knowing what I know now, I'd have asked her out. 4 years at that stage is not much difference. Now, she would still be under her parent's thumb a lot so I think that would be your biggest obstacle. She's barely old enough to drive right now. But think about it, in 4 years she's 20 and you are 24. No big deal.

There are other things people like to do in their free time together... come on! In Canada he is not a minor. It's 18 here, even for buying alcohol. Oh yes there are other things young people like to do to get together but the fact he is an adult and she is not in front of the law it will limit them greatly.
Gaeta Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 But think about it, in 4 years she's 20 and you are 24. No big deal. 16 years old, and 20 years old don't think in terms of 4 years. They live in the moment. Right now she is 16, she has the mentality of a 16 yo teenage girl, and he is an adult male.
dcannon Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 You shouldn't date this girl because gaeta said so. /thread.
Gaeta Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 You shouldn't date this girl because gaeta said so. /thread. That's right !
ASG Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 At 15 I was dating a 21yr old. At 17, I was dating a 23yr old. I find absolutely nothing wrong with it. Even yesterday, I was talking to a close friend about her relationship.. She was 19 when they started dating. He was 43. He is older than her mom. They've been together for 14 years now, and very happy.
dcannon Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 That's right ! Obvious sarcasm. Get your meter checked. You are coming across as pompous, prudish and judgmental.

It isn't as if a 20 year old thinks like a 35 year old.
BeholdtheMan Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I was really immature at 19,20,21. I think I only started to mature in my mid to late twenties You missed out on high school so you're probably even less mature. Ethically, I don't see anything wrong if all you say is true. Just don't do anything illegal
