spiderowl Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I've been in touch with a guy for a while and we have been texting regularly a few times a day. I've used his name in texts, like 'hi X', but he didn't use my name, just started the text with whatever he had to say. A couple of weeks ago (when things became strange with him anyway), he suddenly started using my name in texts. I noticed this because I had wondered before why he hadn't, but you know everyone's different. This change has intrigued me, esp as it was so noticeable. Any ideas on why a guy might do this?
Author spiderowl Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Any thoughts? Just thought it was odd that it should suddenly change.
Satu Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I think you are looking for meaning where there is none. 1
Author spiderowl Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 I think you are looking for meaning where there is none. Possibly, but it actually felt different and I do tend to pick up on things that others don't. Somehow it felt the sender was being more dominant or patronising, even though the rest of the text was normal.

Author spiderowl Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Don't get lost in the details. Lol, it's intuition and I usually find in retrospect that something I noticed as odd was highly significant, but I don't always know why I picked up on it at the time. My job involves working with detail and I'm very good at it. I'm a detail person. I would guess you are more broad sweep.

Author spiderowl Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 I'm of the 'relax, and let things happen naturally' school. I can appreciate that; it's just as valid and probably more relaxing to be like that. I've had experience of things that I have picked up on intuitively pretty much saving my life or that of others. I've also found that when something stands out and bothers me, it sometimes later blows up into a big issue for those concerned. These are not things that are anything to do with me, but which have happened around me. I look back and wish I'd spoken up when I had that feeling, but no-one else picked up on it at the time. In one case, something that was bugging me actually turned into a big international incident. I listen to my intuition now however odd it can seem at the time. It is a kind of pattern-sensing ability. Despite what has happened to me and how it came as a surprise, I still think the underlying trend was attachment on both sides, so this was strange behaviour. But then again, maybe I'm kidding myself!
Haydn Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Dunno Spider, I`ve had these types of texts in the past. `Haydn, i want to ask you something?` Always seemed more relevant.... Sometimes it was. Revealing i suppose. But it`s probably nothing and you may be over thinking.

Was puzzled in this case because the history was of not using it then suddenly using it. He started using it shortly before 'breaking up' with me, not that we were together in the first place. Maybe it's a way of making the tone of a message more serious, like in 'I am talking specifically to you now and no-one else and want you to know it.' So perhaps one should pay attention to such changes in messages. Edited March 8, 2015 by spiderowl

But the same is true when i am her sun lit dream. I reckon there could be something to gleaned from it but i doubt it`s much, but my ears do notice this. 1

I guess it could mean 'this is serious and focused'. It felt like that, felt a bit imposing somehow. I suppose it took me back to childhood days when someone was telling me off!
Jess cms Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 yeah that probably doesn't mean anything, but I'm like you, I pay attention to details as well... probably more than I should x) well I can speak for myself.. usually I just say what I have to say, I never type anyone's name in my texts and when I do is when I'm really serious about something or angry, when I want someone to really pay attention to what I'm saying. It can be something like that or nothing at all... just don't think too much about it.
Shepp Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I use peoples names a lot in text and purpose, mainly cause I love when people use my name - weird right but it instantly makes me like them more. Just one of those things right. But its more awkward using the name of someone your not as familiar with - doesn't seem to sit right of the tongue - or fingers I guess if your typing!

I usually use people's names when I want to be more caring towards them or acknowledge them of course. I'm really bad with names though. I usually use their names in texts unless they don't. I figure they don't mind if they are not using names. Having someone switch from not using to using is new on me.
