Tamed Wildflower Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Hello Diana. I am glad you came to loveshack with this problem. The thing is, hon, I tend to think that the problem you have is different than the problem you think you have. You think your problem is big calves. I think your problem is thinking your calves are too big. Honey, what is so bad about having big calves? If they are muscular, then that shows you are probably in really great physical condition, which is a wonderful indication of your good health! If you stop eating meat-- I am not sure if this will decrease your calf size. If you are talking about muscle, maybe. But it will also probably cut out your major source of protein, which you need. Vegetarians usually aim to replace meat with other protein sources, like tofu and beans--beans like frijoles, chick peas, navy beans, not like green string beans... but these also sometimes make you fart. Try going to http://www.goaskalice.com and posting your question there. That is the Q and A service at Columbia University's health center. But I still think your problem is what's in your mind, not what's on your legs.
westernxer Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 If you use a wheelchair your leg muscles will certainly atrophy... other than that, there's nothing you can do to shrink them, unless you choose to walk on your hands all day. Then you'll have really huge biceps and deltoids. Muscle mass is hard to shed, especially around your legs. You should go out for soccer... they've all got nice, muscular legs.
faux Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I realize that people are starting to go through puberty at much younger ages these days, but you are probably not finished growing in every way just yet. No one is perfect. You could very well change in a variety of ways over the next few years. I don't think it would be smart to try to do anything about your issue without first finding out what your doctor thinks.
liswil Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I have big calves---always have (and I'm thin). There's not much you can do about them---meaning they won't disappear. It's just the way you're built. I recommend toning them if they aren't toned now. Mine are toned and very muscular. A lot of guys like them (even if I don't). I often hear that I have great legs. (my thighs are toned too).
booble Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Lol, I also have huge calfs (a sensitive cousin dubbed me 'the girl with the big calfs') and I used to totally LOATHE them (among other bodily parts). But, it isn't all doom and gloom:- lots of guys and gals I know now quite like the 'shaplier' leg Look at tennis players and other sporty people along those lines, some of them have big old calves and they look pretty alright. They tend to balance out other large *ahem* features, like my butt and Clodhoppery feet. Anyway they are part of you and won't go away so make them work for you. The best legtoning exercise IMO is skipping, do a few mins a day and in a week you won't believe A) how fit you are and B) how much fitter and more toned you'll feel. Finally I like to remind myself that I'm lucky my legs Work as I'd miss them if they didn't (No Matter what they look like) T.C x booble
