Fhsjkfjrhsdh3646 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hrmm, as someone who has faced such a complaint (over a overheard discussion in a bar about my gf, and a coworker in the same bar thinking we talked about her) I totally agree. However, in europe, as it has been told to me, basically if I am not grabbing legs and smacking asses, I am pretty safe. Oh you're from Europe? Here in the USA (land of the prudes) you can't so much as make a joke and if someone gets offended and tells HR you get stuck with a formal complaint/eventual termination. 1

Oh, I know, that is where I almost got in trouble. I am an american... expat in germany.
umirano Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I think you have what we call the "Exotenbonus". It's not helping you in toning it down, as local girls will happily flirt with the american. But for the sake of your GFs happiness go easy on the flirting, and most of all don't rub it in her face how many and how academically distinguished lady friends you have. Take the flirting home to her and the brain acrobatics to the workplace. This way you should be safe WRT to both of your problems. Is your GF european? I noticed that americans are a lot quicker to call someone a "friend" than people in europe generally, so maybe differentiate between acquaintances/co-workers/neigbors/buddies and actual friends, that will surely help her to put things in perspective. All this under the assumption she's european. 1
Author LoveRefreshed Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 yeah, I will really tone it down. I do think I am sticking way out for being American. A lot of girls do flirt with me. Some girls bought me beer one night a while back.. first time in my life some hot stranger girls stopped me in the street, invited me into the club and bought me beer. Hahaha. Yes, she is German. We really do talk openly about things and I think one thing was our as far yet, no discussion about "us" and if we were exclusive. We will see tomorrow how things are as I am having a party.
Author LoveRefreshed Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Oh good god. You have all been proven right. I am going to start making sincere efforts to keep my personality more on the friendly side. Party went great, my gf and I went home around 3 am with no insecurity issues arising. What did happen was one of the girls after she was quite drunk basically asked if I was taking her home that night, her boyfriend is out of town. I quickly shot it down, nicely since I was apparently the misleading *******. So, in the end, I guess I will stop making any jokes like that as it seemingly invites complications.
