nina_x Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I was once ditched by a guy because of my voice... He said I sounded like Lois from Family Guy Anyway, if it bothers you this much, let him go. Just don't make him feel bad. 1
MissBee Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Guys, would you be offended if a chick turned you down cuz of your accent? The guy has other qualities I desire, tall, fit, attractive - I just can't get over his accent. I'm thinking of creative ways of telling him to "be quiet" without being rude though. Like saying "sssshhhh" in a sexy way and put my fingers on his lips? Or maybe me saying "babe, let me do the talking" and see if that works? I mean, guys complain about us women being picky. I'm just trying to not be picky and work through this "accent" issue. What do you think? Am I being too picky? Should I try with the "shsssh" thing and see if he gets the hint to not talk much? I'm not a man but would be offended if a man kept shhshing me every time I tried to talk. I would find it patronizing. Are you trying to sleep with him or have a relationship? If it is the latter don't bother if you really dislike his accent. You only mentioned his physical appearance in the "qualities" you desire so I can only assume, and give you the benefit of the doubt, that this is about sex as if it's about more I would hope you have more qualities than mere physical traits. A man's voice is important for me in terms of attraction so if I don't like how you talk or your accent... Nope... Not gonna work. I like conversation and am turned on by intelligence and stimulating conversation as well as a man who talks a little in bed so I need to like your voice. If I don't like it, no can do. 1
MissBee Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 And some women wonder why they end up alone with 12 cats. These deal-breakers just slay me. I'm sure this isn't why. Lots of women are picky about lots of things and still don't end up alone. If you don't like a man's accent there are other men in the world with accents you might like, the options aren't date man with accent you hate or be alone. 1

While you make a good point I have to wonder what other deal breakers Gloria has if she turns down a guy for some thing so minor 1
lgspot Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Yes, it is... I guess on top of the accent being so off-putting, I associate certain things with people who carry that accent. Sorry. Besides, I'm looking for certain things in a guy. I want someone f-able. That requires a good body, stamina, skills, and looks. His sense of humor, ability to pay my bills and/or do things for me is the last thing on my agenda. There was a time I'd overlook certain things about guys cuz of course, I am not looking for a husband and stuff, but over the years I prefer boinking someone with certain qualities/aspects. So, for example - if he's broke and doesn't have a job isn't an issue for me cuz I don't need someone to pay my bills. BUT, at the same time it dries up my vagina cuz what's sexy about a guy who's broke? So yes, the accent is an issue for me. A dealbreaker is a dealbreaker. Interesting posts ya'll. Guess my country boy drawl is SOL. At some point, even in bed, people lust to talk. Stick to your guns G25, the right guy will make himself known soon... Perhaps CiH's guy has a brother?!? Wouldn't that be a hoot to have a double wedding on LS. 1
Author Gloria25 Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 In other words, he sounds like Jeff Foxworthy. As a native Alabaman, I can tell you it's going to be difficult living down there and finding people who don't have a drawl. I once heard that British and Southern accents are closely related: Maybe you should just imagine you're dating a more slowly speaking Hugh Grant. Would that help? No, I am not a fan of strong accents - from anywhere. Actually, Hugh Grant sounds ok.

You just lose the right to sing the "where have all the good men gone" blues if you have found a man who is spot on in every other way apart from his tone of voice. Dollars to doughnuts though that OP will ditch this guy and then be starting threads about lame men etc. All I can say is if I met a girl who ticked all the boxes a brummie accent would be a pain but I could gladly put up with it for the rest of the package. An issue with a partners accent can be filed under 'first world dating problems'.
Got it Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 We all decide what hills we want to die on and then deal with the consequences of said actions. That is definitely life.
