moimeme Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 When porn wasn't as available, it was the Sears catalogue's underwear section or National Geographic's photos of naked tribeswomen. Men have ALWAYS looked at naked women. So thinking it's something new is foolish. Before the Internet, there was Playboy and Hustler and those sorts of mags. There have been movies as long as there have been movies. I wonder if, before the Internet, women wrote to Ann Landers complaining 'my husband's always looking at that damn Sears catalogue'.

New pornographic figurines from the Stone Age have been discovered in Germany. http://www.spiegel.de/international/spiegel/0,1518,350042,00.html
DeaconFrost Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Originally posted by analyzetheworld I think a lot of guys (maybe girls too) look at porn, and don't even consider the implications of doing so. The viewpoint you are taking here is valid, however you are trying to use scare tactics and issues of morality to convince people that porn is wrong for everyone. Sure, there are definately some seedy aspects of the business, but have you ever seen interviews with porn stars? Alot of them are happy to be in the business (men AND women). They enjoy their work AND a lot of them have said that they were never abused. On top of this they get paid very handsomely for their work. It's not like they are trolling the streets for unsuspecting women and convince them that it is their duty to act in porn films. They have casting calls where these women VOLUNTARILY choose to attend. It's no different than playboy's casting calls in process. It's more about fame and money than it is about their childhood. It might play a role, but today's porn industry is a very tightly run profession with people who are in the business because they love sex. Plain and simple. The scenario that you pose does exist, but I'd be willing to bet that it is no where near the levels you are proposing. Originally posted by moimeme There are people susceptible to addictions. If they don't get addicted to porn, it will be to gaming or gambling or drugs or booze or food or something. It is not the porn that is addicting, it is addicts who get hooked. It's amazing that you have such worries about women who work in porn. Do you refuse to buy shoes and clothes from kiddy labour factories? Do you boycott other goods that are created by exploitation? You are right on the money here M! analysetheworld, if you choose to take the aspect that you do and blow it up to worldly epidemic levels you will end up painting a very negative view of the world in general. You can pick ANY industry, ANY topic, in ANY part of the world and you will find some very seedy or unfavorable situations. You know what the key is here? It's money and the human element. Just because there are some things going on behind the "black curtain" so-to-speak doesn't mean that the products/services that are a result are completely off limits or turn people into heartless, uncaring people who ignore what is going on. The human element is a reality. And we all do things in different ways, but don't chastise everyone because they view porn. I'm sure if I played your role, I'd be boycotting Starbucks because I doubt those Indonesian and Venezulan workers are getting a fair wage. And I'm sure they have children working in the villages too. On that note, I don't think anyone should ever drink cofffee again...Ha! Originally posted by *snuggles* ok.. then my Q is.. Y do guys that are in a happy loving relationship still watch porn especially when they know their gf is against it and then claim "i dont need it cos i got u". Seriously... who are they kidding? I just gave you a laundry list in my previous post on why men would still view porn even if they were in a happy loving relationship. It's not about need at all. It's about choice. Men choose to view it because of some of the circumstances I listed. Men choose to view it because they maybe don't want to pressure some women for a current sexual need....maybe they really are loving? Men choose to do it because maybe they really aren't in a really happy relationship and don't feel like telling you otherwise. People are using porn as the scapegoat. How about really questioning and analyzing your SO's personality traits and his needs and wants before you immeadiately label porn as "addictive and damaging." Its more than likely the person that is "addictive and damaging." Porn does have some poor messages in it (as stated in my previous thread) but so does Dawson's Creek. It's about choice, not about susceptability to overpowering messages.

BF109 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Well I am looking at porn right now and I really enjoy it - and yes I keep questioning myself whether its right or wrong - I am married too. But I think looking at porn is OK as long as it does not destroy your life - I mean one start does not go to work for porn, or does not spend time with wife, I mean your so consummed by porn that you dont do anything else. I just came back from a holiday from Egypt with my wife and not once did I miss looking at porn, YES i thought about porn towards the end of the trip, but I always side to myself, I rather me here (o/seas) than at home looking at porn. Why do I do it?? Not sure, One of the writers here commented on some of the reasons and I agree - boredom, mood, etc - I think women should just get over it - its pleasing to the eye and we enjoy it . BTW, women also enjoy watching porn, a small minority do! Regards Shelton.
