Hey,

I'm really into boxing at the moment and train a lot in it. However my balance isnt great! I'm physically fit have played soccer most of my life and do a lot of bodyweight exercises....but my balance and coordination are poor!!!

After having done boxing for quite awhile now its clear this is the main thing I need to work on as balance is everything in terms of power and being agile - my lack of balance shows up in my footwork in particular. Has anyone any ideas for exercises I could do to work on this?

I would be keen to try another sport/exercise if I felt it could benefit boxing and not take away from it....

Rollerblading. Ripstik. Surfing.

Or even just try standing up when you put your socks on. I still impress myself with that one but I'm simple like that.

Any standing yoga pose will do wonders for your balance.

But you can basically do timed one legged stands regularly. When you are able to stand on one leg for one minute, try with your eyes closed.

Also, your core is actually very involved in balance so anything you can do to work your core will help.

Don't forget your back is also part of your core. :)

I'll second the yoga. Lot of balance involved in various yoga poses. And a lot of core work involved in yoga. And if you really want a challenge, and does wonders for balance, go find a ballet class!

you need to strengthen the core muscles for better balance. yoga, pilates or the more 'manly' barre method.

Strength training. Balance, agility, power come from being strong in the first place. Deadlifts have made a huge difference to my balance, much more so than anything that works mainly your stabilisers.

I've done indoor rock climbing for years now, it actually really helps your balance!
