My ex enjoys pda. She used to try to kiss me on a busy train in the way to work, or on a busy street downtown. I didn't realize it was that important to her. I thought holding hands and affection at home would be enough, but it wasn't. We broke up mostly because of it.

I realized after that it was such a little thing. If I had kissed her or touched her more, maybe we'd still be together. Maybe we'd be getting married or having kids by now.

One night we went out for dinner. We both got dressed up. Her in a black dress, me in khakis, loafers and a nice shirt. We went to a Cajun place that took 45 minutes to get to and the food was horrible.

We took the train home and I couldn't keep my hands off of her. It was the night I realized I loved her. How I could have had such a ridiculous time at a restaurant, but still have a good time with her. We discussed moving in together and having a family, but the logistics of us living in cities two hours apart didn't add up.

I knew after that, things would change. I started looking at options. Searching for jobs there, but there were too many differences. We did the casual thing for a while, but it fizzled out, as most things do. There were other issues of course, but our levels of affection were the biggest difference.

She came on strong at the beginning. She fell for me months before I'd even considered her that way. There was too much space in between, and I was an idiot.

And therein lies the difference between us as a species. Ill communication perhaps, but more importantly, our inability to discern the important things. Things done right that make or break the relationship.
