mortensorchid
I have been seeing a lot of thoughts and feelings about Valentine's Day recently as it is coming up on Saturday. A lot of guys I know say that they see these commercials and promotional things for it (flowers, candy, diamonds, etc.) and they want to throw up. I see the chick flicks, romance novels and whatnot and they speak to my inner reasonable self and can't believe that women fall for this nonsense. (But did you know, side note, that women who read romance novels either privately or openly have twice as much sex as women who don't? Fact.) The next time you are lamenting about Valentine's Day, remember a few things before you get angry or depressed about it. 1) We are all slaves to capitalism - We are taught that to show another person that you love or care for them involves spending and increasing the national debt. This is why so many people get bent out of shape about wedding planning as well - you feel like you are an actor in an elaborate play rather than being a part of something that is supposed to show love between the two people who are doing the deed. 2) Love/romance doesn't cost a thing - Saying "I love you" to another person doesn't cost anything, does it? Being considerate and thoughtful towards one another is what truly matters, not how much you do or don't spend on them. 3) The past - The past is the past for a reason, don't let it hurt who you are today and what you are about. Don't chase some foolish dream or whine about how (name) hurt you, be realistic and truthful. It's not all about you, it's about how we are together.
