Is there a way I can make my female friend feel better? I accidentally hurt her and well now she obviously doesn't want to speak to me.

She played a prank on me dressing up all in black, covered from head to toe, pretending to be burglar. Stupid me didn't know it was her and took it serious, thinking it was true burglar and tackled him hard on the ground. It wasn't till she immediately took off the mask and kept saying ''It's me, you jerk''.

I had no idea. Just happened a couple days ago. I'm at lost. I've never hurt a girl before. It's not in me. She's also pretty tall for a girl at 5'10 or maybe that's why it was hard to recognize it was her.

Was there some reason that you should have known it was her?

It seems to me if someone pretends to be a criminal threatening person or property, he or she has assumed the risk of being treated like a criminal.

If I dress as and act like a burglar to one of my male friends, I'm fully accepting the fact that he may punch me in the face. Because of that, I don't dress up as or act like a burglar.

She won't talk to you over this?

What did she think would happen? That it would turn you on?

Huge facepalm on this one (towards her)

Yeah, I agree with the others.

This is a prank?? What did she expect you to do, scream and run into a closet so she could have a good laugh about it? I don't get it.

Though you make a sense BlueIris (and all of you too) and yes she scared the heck out of me to be honest. In my mind, all I saw in that moment was an intruder and immediately went into fight mode.

I tried apologizing and all she said is she'll think about it and needs time. She's just in shock as I am too.

Tell her it was an accident.

Don't feel so bad.

Which is how a lot of people would react!! How could she not consider that this prank could backfire?

I'm not sure what she thinks she needs time for...

She did something stupid that backfired. It is in no way your fault and the one who should apologize is her.

Stop beating yourself up over this.

I wouldn’t apologize much more.

Reality check: where I live, she very well could have been shot and killed.

As her friend, I would tell her that, not to argue or make her feel bad but to wake her up. Seriously, this is not something she should EVER do again.

Tell her that she should be thankful you didn't have the 12 Gage within reach. No kidding- that was a stupid thing for her to do. What did she expect?

Thanks. I have done my part in telling her it was an accident. I'll leave it at that. Hopefully she does come to her sense and talks to me again. Would suck to lose a good friend over a prank.

True. I think she probably thought I would have recognize her. But yes, that was dumb of her. Thanks.

What Sal said...

That was an incredibly stupid and irresponsible thing for her to do, she's lucky she didn't get shot...

Stop feeling bad, you acted out of instinct, and apparently without hesitation, that's a GOOD thing! Give yourself some credit for that at least!

I can think of a million better ways to prank someone, dafuq was she thinking?????? She deserved what she got, if she wants to get all butthurt over it, that's her problem, stop feeling bad about it, she brought it on herself!!

If you lose her because she is blaming you for HER prank that went wrong, she was't much of a friend to begin with....

Why does this sound similar to Oscar Pistorius?

Starting to wonder if the guy is innocent.

I think the real burglar is the OP. Right now he's robbing all of the sympathetic, helpful, trusting members of their discernment.

Sucks she got hurt but really, this is on her. She played a prank that actually put her in a position that was dangerous!

She's over reacting. In fact she should be the one apologizing to you since she did a real dumb prank without thinking of how you might react.

Then back off and give her space. Trust me, when she tells others what she did and how you reacted, people will point out to her that she was in the wrong and not to be mad at you, that you did what most would do, protect themselves.

If she can't get over this and stops talking to you completely then she isn't worth having in your life.

I agree that he shouldn't feel bad but it wasn't an accident, it was the reality of dressing like a burglar and sneaking in, in my house they very well might have been shot and killed, no shiot...

Your friend is in the wrong... she should be apologizing to you and should be making it up to you for creating a prank that was too real...

What a stupid woman!!! Who does such a prank and then cries over the fact that she got punched? If she gets all dressed up in black and acts like a burglar how on earth are you supposed to know that it's her.

Do not feel guilty! You did not hurt your friend, you tackled a burglar!

She should not have been so stupid. It's not like you hurt her while you were having a friendly conversation with her.

Did she break into your home in the middle of the night? Where I come from, she would end up well-ventilated via various firearms. It happens more often than you think and given the circumstances would likely never go beyond an initial investigation.
