SycamoreCircle Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 If you had been seeing a woman for several weeks and during a conversation about the institution of marriage she made a statement like "it's in men's nature to spread their seed" would you consider this a red flag?
Toodaloo Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Does she mean before, during or after? Suspect she is lightheartedly trying to find out if you are going to cheat on her or not.
Gaeta Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 That came out of everybody's mouth at some point. It's the same as saying Women Nest and Men Hunt. or Women have wider peripheral vision and men have tunnel vision It's just stuff people say.
bathtub-row Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 It's a flag that she probably doesn't trust men. Maybe she was hoping to hear you say something to convince her that you're different. 1
acrosstheuniverse Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 If you had been seeing a woman for several weeks and during a conversation about the institution of marriage she made a statement like "it's in men's nature to spread their seed" would you consider this a red flag? Nah I don't think so, depends on context. I have joked with my boyfriend before that biologically speaking, he's supposed to go out and impregnate as many women as possible. I'm quite into evolutionary psychology, doesn't mean I would actually tolerate a partner acting in that way. 1
Author SycamoreCircle Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Context: my ex said this to me in the beginning of our romance. She ended up cheating on me a year later.
Wing Chair Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 If you had been seeing a woman for several weeks and during a conversation about the institution of marriage she made a statement like "it's in men's nature to spread their seed" would you consider this a red flag? Yes, it is a red flag, as she seems to subscribe to evo psych nonsense. Prepare for more nonsense.
elaine567 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Yes, it is a red flag, as she seems to subscribe to evo psych nonsense. Prepare for more nonsense. Forget the "evo psych nonsense". Is it not a true statement anyway? Men over the centuries have always "spread their seed". Yes women have let them, or been forced to let them, but spreading seed is what the human race boils down to in reality. Sycamorecircle I also guess that she wanted some idea of your views on monogamy. I think it is just something people say. I do not think it is necessarily a red flag anymore than if she said she likes dogs and so did your ex.
Author SycamoreCircle Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 But if a man were to say, "I believe marriage is problematic. Men were intended to spread their seed" wouldn't most women view that as a red flag? 1
elaine567 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 But if a man were to say, "I believe marriage is problematic. Men were intended to spread their seed" wouldn't most women view that as a red flag? Did she actually say " I believe marriage is problematic" ?
d0nnivain Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 No it's not a red flag. It's an opinion. The fact that she expressed an opinion that she thinks men cheat was not a prophecy that she was later going to cheat.
acrosstheuniverse Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 But if a man were to say, "I believe marriage is problematic. Men were intended to spread their seed" wouldn't most women view that as a red flag? If a guy said it, yes, as he's talking about him cheating. If a woman said it, well she's not sat there saying 'women aren't supposed to be faithful, we're here to procreate with as many men as possible' is she? Perhaps at worst, she has been cheated on before and is testing the waters to see how you feel about infidelity, whether you agree with her statement or not. But it certainly doesn't mean she will cheat.

Yes I consider it a red flag. She has some insecurity, maybe has been cheated on before. Regardless she is expressing lack of trust and pigeonholing men.
