the_opposite_sex Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 So right now, I can't afford to go to tanning beds...so I was thinking about tryin out the sunless tanning lotions. Kinda scared to b/c I dont wanna walk around lookin like an orange. please share stories, whether or not you were successful w/ the stuff.....
Bunni Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Worked for me. Just washes off slowly as you bathe. I used lotion and the foam stuff. Had a friend help put in on tho, and you do have to wash it off asap after it's applied because my friends hands were stained cause he didn't wash soon enough. I would try it if I were you! Oh BTW I used the neutrogena brand. Last a week or so depending how often you bathe!
XNemesisX Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I use sunless tanners a lot now, since I had to have a spot removed on my chest from laying in the tanning beds so much. I really like L'Oreal Sublime Bronze lotion in deep for a drugstore brand. I haven't found anything else that looks as natural. Sun Laboratories makes a really good aerosol tanning spray that even gives you the appearance of little freckles after it dries. It looks really natural. I don't know where you buy it though, I bought mine off ebay. I think that no matter how good you become at sunless tanning, it is always going to look a little bit fake. I can get everywhere on my body to look good except for the wrist area. That's what really gives it away.
Author the_opposite_sex Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 i got the bronzer stuff that Victoria's Secret has out now. It has different scents to it as well. I put some on my arm "tested" it before i bought it. Do you put any on your face? I haven't put it on my body yet b/c i just bought it today...
XNemesisX Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Yeah I put it on my face, but a lot lighter. I use Sun Laboratories aersol spray on my face. I just close my eyes and spray a fine mist over my face. It dries and looks really natural..even with the appearance of some freckles. It looks pretty good. I try not to go overboard with my face because I can use makeup to make it look darker and a fake tan face seems to look pretty telling. I find that the spray works better for the face (the AEROSOL sprays) which for some reason I can't seem to find aerosol sunless tanners in the drugstore. Sun labs is my fave, but I've also used "Spray tan in a can." It's aerosol too, that I got from ebay, but the color is a little more on the orange side. It's not bad, but definitely doesn't look as real as the Sun Lab stuff.
li'l bunny Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Also, if it's just one or two occasions and not all the time you could go to a beauty clinic and get the airbrush tan that they do. It's excellent and lasts about a week
tiki Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 My coworker did the sirbursh tan. Her knuckles were orange, she had drips down the back of her arm and her neck look polka-dotted.
blind_otter Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 I know a girl who does this spray on tan thing and she looks ORANGE. It's gross.
li'l bunny Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 well maybe it depends on the clinic. I got it done twice and people thought it was natural. I did feel strange though standing naked in front of someone while they sprayed air on me. Or did those people go into one of those things that does it itself?? The beautician did mine and of course she did it a lot lighter on elbows and knees etc because the skin is drier there and it comes out darker
tiki Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 She probably just stood in a booth. It looked like she'd given a brick wall a knuckle sandwich. I'd never tell her it looked bad though.

My friends were visiting from down in s. fla. and this girl we know walked by. There were 5 of us at the table and one guy says "I didn't know orange was a skin color" and then we were all giggling and making comments, but she got the spray on tan like all winter because no one would tell her to her face that she looked orange. Of course I live in FL, and it's soooooo easy to get a natural tan that the spray on ones look really aritificial when you stand next to a person who gets a natural tan.
XNemesisX Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Okay this is making me feel paranoid that I really look orange and don't know it! I'm going to start going to the tanning bed this week actually..because you can tell a difference in the two especially if you are looking at someone close up. I know people who go to tanning beds that look orange though..what is up with that?
jen4 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 It is great! I have tried several sunless tanner lotions/creams and they made me look orange or streaked. the jergens natural glow is awesome! I saw a difference in 3 days. It comes in fair or medium skin tones. I don't look orange. It goes on just like lotion, but you gradually see the difference. I love it!!It's cheap too, only 4 something at walmart. JEN
Author the_opposite_sex Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 I tried this bronzing stuff that Victoria's Secret has now. It comes w/ different scents. I tried it, liked it and it looked good on me, but it was such a pain in the a$$! Soo messy and I got the front of me done, then turned around the backside of me was still white. I didnt have my b/f do my backside b/c then he'd be a mess....and I dont wanna have to have him do that every single time b/c when you take a shower, it comes off. ugh. Just a big pain in the butt is what it is, i'd rather go to a tanning bed anyday!
XNemesisX Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 To get your backside you have to get one of those sponge on a stick things (I can't think of what they are called right now). You can buy them at Wal-mart and they just have a long wooden handle with a sponge on the end. You just put the ST on the sponge and rub it in your back using the wooden handled sponge. Also, wear latex gloves to keep from staining your hands and use makeup wedges and put ST on the wedge to apply the tanner to your hands. (you can use the wedge for your face too). One of my friends does a combination of sunless tanner and the tanning bed. She looks really great and she says it keeps her looking a lot darker than if she didn't use the sunless tanner at all. (She has trouble getting very dark in the tanning bed). The bronzers you can buy for the tanning bed are essentially sunless tanners. Opposite Sex- To get good at sunless tanning you have to practice it a LOT. Also, you may have to go through tons of products before you find one that works good for you. A sunless tan should last about a week, and it shouldn't come off in the shower unless you are scrubbing. Just gently use soap and water with your hands in the shower while you have ST on to keep it from coming off right away.
XNemesisX Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Also, here is a good website to go to that has great tips on sunless tanning and also a really great message board: http://www.sunless.com/ This is where I got all my information on the best products, and methods of applying. I actually have a sunless tan right now, and my own mother got on to me when she saw me because she thought I was going to the tanning bed and "frying myself" again. So, it really does just take practice. I'm pretty good at it now, although I still wouldn't mind going to the tanning bed some. I had a spot removed on my chest because of how much I was going to the tanning bed so I just try to go as little as possible. Actually, the big trend in Hollywood now is sunless tanning because more and more stars/models don't want to wrinkle their skin up. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Jenna Jameson, Pamela Lee, and Jessica Simpson have all admitted that their tans are usually fake. Paris Hilton has been quoted in many magazines telling girls to get a "mystic tan" and Britney Spears has said her favorite sunless tanner is Fake Bake. Just thought I would pass that along
