d0nnivain Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Although I am married, I'm not a big Valentine's Day fan. I absolutely HATE going out to dinner on Valentine's Day. It's too crowded. It's usually noisy & the food is often subpar because it's so crowded. DH knows this. We may go out Sunday to avoid that. So that leaves me with what to do on Saturday. I was thinking of making a nice candle lit dinner, renting a movie & buying some new lingerie. We can exchange gifts before or after dinner. I'm not the best cook so I was actually thinking about making Engagement Chicken, with the orange, lemon & lime inside. It's easy & tasty. Anybody got any better ideas? 2
Toodaloo Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Marry me instead! Even if its just for the night - that sounds yummy. I am taking my Grandmother out. I am not a great cook so am paying someone else to do that so I don't give her food poisoning 3
Author d0nnivain Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Toodaloo-- you are very thoughtful. What a lovely thing to do for your grandmother. After my mom passed, DH & I would spend V-day with my dad. I made dinner at his place & we'd all ignore the day. That 1st year less than a month after she died I really didn't know what to do for my poor dad who didn't have a Valentine for the 1st time in 60 years. The 2nd year we were on vacation in another country so it was less in your face. 1

My Grandparents were hopelessly in love before Grandpa died. Granny is still mourning him bless her but determined to make the most of her life so very sprightly. They didn't "do" valentines so this will be her first since she was 16!!! I am going to get her some flowers and choccys Will be fun to spoil her. 4
Got it Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 You can do a wine and cheese platter with nuts, fruits, etc. as well. Easy, picnic idea in your family room. If you want to splurge a little, there are a lot of chefs available that can come in and cook for you. We did that for our anniversary and it was lovely. She brought in the groceries, cooked it, served it, cleaned up and left. And she was a blast to talk to. Or an at home couples massage either with professionals or just the two of you. 4
Els Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Sounds good! Make sure you have dessert - I like Got it's cheese platter suggestion, but if you're into chocolate a homemade fondue would be great too. Have you bought the lingerie yet? I'm finding that lingerie gets more expensive close to Valentines' Day. 2
todreaminblue Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 make it an arabian/egyptian night dinner for two.....have a carpet picnic, candles all around add cous cous with lemon and herbs to your lemon zested chicken ...have a selection of arabian style tapas or sweets, finger food you can feed each other.....stuffed dates with honey and cream cheese......spiced nuts with a bit of heat.......flatbreads and fragrant dips, tiny morsels......bite size.......and watch cleopatra...with elizabeth taylor and richard burton i think.....no asps allowed...or a comedy...you can laugh over together......deb 1
Author d0nnivain Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Definitely no snakes! lol I'm not sure DH would be on board with a picnic. He has an extreme dislike of finger foods. No I haven't bought anything yet. I just came up with this brilliant idea. 1
xxoo Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Whipped cream is cheap, and can double as lingerie and dessert 7

Gloria25 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I like the fondue idea....something "different" I think the food depends on how much sex you plan to have...I mean a normal candlelit dinner is cool if afterwards you two just go for one round of sex... But if it's gonna be several hours, I like the meats, cheese, veggies and crackers platter and some wine. Then for dessert you can feed each other chocolate strawberries, pineapple, etc. Those fruit baskets with fruits dipped in chocolate can be interesting game play too. You could meet him at the door with the basket, in a sexy baby doll and heels and be like "guess who's gonna feed "me" tonite? Then you two can take turns feeding each other the yummy fruits. IMO, light food is good and playful if there's gonna be lots of sex... Enjoy!!! BTW, I yesterday picked up some V-day cupcakes at the local grocery...so, I'm already celebrating!!! Ha, ha!!! Take THAT lovebirds out there

Did you get the "Engagement Chicken" recipe from Glamour? I cooked it for mum and I. It was simple and delish!!! Oh, and mum did not end up proposing to me I just wanted to add...no smelly or greasy food. Cuz when you both "get busy" don't wanna be smelling like food or have heavy digestion going on. I guess runners do what I propose. Runners have a light thing like a half banana or toast with peanut butter cuz when you start running...trust me, when your stomach is trying to digest something heavy, you'll feel it I usually have a big meal or breakfast "after" a good roll in the hay...I kidd you not, I'll be hungry as heck!!!

Can eat those with some dipping sauces, veggies and maybe even some baked fries, chips w/o getting smelly and/or greasy? Some finger foods are weird, does he dislike them in general?
Author d0nnivain Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Some finger foods are weird, does he dislike them in general? He dislikes eating with his fingers. I have seen him eat pizza with a knife & fork. Everybody goes crazy differently. That quirk doesn't bother me. And yes, I got the recipe from Glamour or maybe it was Cosmo. lol 1
Got it Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Hmmm, no finger foods. Well fondue has little forks so that would probably work. I agree, nothing too heavy. Or just have sex first and order food in afterwards.
