Ok, I just got back from a first date with a cute girl I met online that seemed to go pretty well. Plenty of great banter, great eye contact, etc., and she seemed to be giving me a big opening by asking what I was up to this weekend and then conveniently stating that she didn't have much going on.

I took the opening and said we should get together this weekend - she seemed to jump on it and say yes, but was playing a bit reserved. So far, so good - the odd part was she gave me a blatant cheek, preventing any kind of kiss other than a peck...so I just gave the hug.

Should I read into the actions, or just go with the claim that she's up for meeting again this weekend? Do a lot of girls play the anti-kiss game on the first date?...I've been off the scene for a while.

I'm guessing I may be reading too much into the actions - she said she'd like to see me again this weekend, everything else seemed good, but the anti-kiss maneuver threw me for a loop.

It would be great to get peoples' thoughts on if it's worth seeing her again, if the behavior is normal, or anything else.

Thanks!

Relax man. Kissing on the first date/first time you meet someone is kind of strange in my personal opinion. She most probably just doesn't feel comfortable bashing tongues with someone she's known for a few hours, even more so if she's genuinely interested in you, she probably doesn't want to give off "that" kind of vibe. It was only your first date.

You had a great date and she wants to see you again. You kissed her on the cheek. It's all good. Don't overthink this at all, and just roll with what you're doing. For the next date be assertive, confident and funny and start building up that chemistry and you'll most likely get that kiss. Be patient my dude.

It was not a mixed signal. She clearly indicated interest but she also drew an equally clear boundary. She wasn't ready for a kiss. Go on the 2nd date & see what happens from there.

Thanks all - as an update - while he had discussed potentially getting together over the weekend at the tail end of the first date, she followed up about 20 minutes after we parted ways (likely when she got home), to see if I wanted to go out on Saturday...

I think all's good - I just thought it was a bit curious to exhibit the apparent interest and then turn a cheek...

No, it's all good. If she's showing interest in meeting up with you again then she likes you, for now. Don't sweat it.

I rarely ever kiss on a first date. Usually date 3/4 as a general rule. Kissing somebody on a first date when I barely know them is too intimate for me. If I agree to go out with them again it means I like them at least enough to kiss them, so I'd kiss someone then, but for some reason it's generally not happened at the end of a second date, especially if it's not going to happen naturally and it'd feel forced, but date three or four is where I enjoy the first kiss the most :)
