When texting when do you use a x and what you you mean by it?

Just curious...

The only time I use a 'x' in text messages is when it refers to Xoxo...

That is exactly what I have used it for. A sort of text hug/ blow a kiss for close relatives and friends. I use them a lot with my close girlfriends (and lover when I have one), people to whom I have a particularly close relationship and normally kiss and hug when I see them. I use them sparingly with people who are not so close in the same context in which I would hug them i.e. "I am so sorry to hear your father died xx"

I have read a couple of articles.

One says that the use of x at the end of emails and messages is becoming widespread and causing many problems as it is misinterpreted by the recipient...

It started with a kiss... How use of X's in texts and emails spark more than a half of office affairs | Daily Mail Online

Another said that it means nothing and is commonly being used as a full stop...

Just pondering if its an "age" thing or something like that.

Personally, unless its from close friends and family I take it as flirting...

I agree that some use it as a full stop or in the same way you would use a signature xx

I used to use it with all my friends, just like a casual thing. Don't take it seriously. If someone really kisses you, you'll know.

As a man I don't use it. Never saw or experienced another (hetereosexual) man use it. It seems to be a lady's domain. But I have received it from women before, and "X" means kisses. Wish there was a way to turn those "Xs" into real kisses. ;)

Always an x or xx to male or female friends, never to my boss.

I get into trouble with a partner if I forget an x or send less than normal.

These are the type of partners I do not want to date again..and won't.

Isn't that a british thing?

I've never had someone text me x or xx or whatever, but I see screencaps of British peoples texts and they will end EVERY SINGLE TEXT with xx lol.

I use xoxo to my bf sometimes.

I write xo to my sister after I say something jokingly mean.

Lol...I have family in the UK, but never noticed a use of "x" in dealing with them.

XOXO means hugs and kisses.

Signing with an X means you're illiterate.

I use an x for friends, good friends too. If I use an xx, that is for best friends and for family. If I use an x for a guy who seems interested in me, it's because I'm getting to know him and thinking it's a bit too soon for more. If I use xx for a male friend, it's a sign that he's the one I'm interested in at the moment and therefore special to me. He probably doesn't know this little code of mine. If I started having doubts about him, having used two xxs, I'd drop it to one x. It probably seems silly and I don't know why I do this but it suits me and is meaningful to me.

Immediate family will get loads of xxs whenever I feel they need that bit extra.

Strangers I'm not too keen on but need to communicate with will get no xs, but they will get a clear full stop at the end of all sentences. It's a sign that I'm being formal. Any guys who get a full stop and no xs are likely to be onto a loser!

XXX was also used to mark a jug of moonshine. More recently it means X-rated or pornographic content.
