bicyclejunk Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 What's the safe Loss of pounds, with good diet and exercise? I've heard 1 pound, I've heard 2 pounds. I know FIVE pounds would be kinda bad. I just want to know what I should be looking foward to, before I start my exercise and healthy diet program i'm contemplating. Thanks
HoldOn Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 The slower you lose weight, the more likely you'll keep it off. Not more than 2 pounds per week.
gridiron Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 General guidelines say anything over two pounds a week may be a little too ambitious, but that's not true in several cases. For someone who is seriously obese, they can healthily lose more than two pounds a week. If most your weight loss is from a good exercise plan, you may be over two per week. The intial stages of a diet/exercise plan can result in pounds flying off at first, faster than two per week. The guideline is meant to prevent you from having an unhealthily depleted diet. As long as your diet still consists of the wide variety of food groups and nutrients your body needs, you don't need to worry about monitoring how much you lose to make sure you are not losing weight too fast. Look up the USDA food pyramid. Make sure you don't cut out or exclude too much in carbs, proteins, or fats. Eat a wide variety of food groups, including fruits and veggies. If you are reducing one type of food quite a bit, try to make up for it in another way. If you are cutting down in meats, make sure you get your protein somewhere else - eggs or egg whites or milk. If you are cutting down in carbs, try to get some complex carbs, such as rice or potatoes (unless you are doing Atkins or another low-carb diet, which I don't particularly subscribe to). If you are cutting down in fat, it is not as essential to make sure you get a minimal amount of fat, but fish or nuts are a good source of fats that aren't as bad for you. Don't cut down on fruits or veggies. Another good idea during a diet is to pop a multivitamin once a day to make sure you are not missing out on any important vitamins or minerals as a result of decreasing the nutrients you would normally get from a high calorie intake diet.
"Q" Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 First of all I'm a guy and a wrestler so my "safe" wieght loss is a little tweeked. Me personally could loose if i worked my ass off could loose 3.5-4.0 pounds a day. This was very unhealthy I was dehydrated, only eat 1000 calories a day and live on 2-3 cups of liquid a day. The healthy guideline is no more than 2-2.5 a week with excercise 4-6 times a week. Remember you cant get fat if you don't eat, what you eat how much and when are key factors in weight control. Drink lots of water and be HAPPY. Clinical studies have proven that if you are happy and not depressed that weight loss can happen 35% more effectivily. So loose weight right and be healthy.
katie79 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hi. As you mentioned, 1.5-2.0 lbs is *considered* the norm. However, everybody is different. Some loose only 1 lb a week and do as much possible, while others can just eat a little less and loose up to 6 lbs a week. It depends. As long as you are eating right and exercising, you should be ok. Knock out any *fad* diets. Regardless, you can always refer the the nutrition guide on the back of any package (the "pyramid"). It provides you with correct portion sizes, what foods to eat, etc. Do some exercise too. You'll be fine then.
laRubiaBonita Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 the main thing is to make sure you drink water, and not loose water weight.
