NAS123 Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Why do guys lie to their girlfriends and ex girlfriends? Why can't ex-boyfriends be upfront with their ex-girlfriends if they are dating someone?
tanbark813 Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 I would imagine for many of the same reasons that girls do.
Donut Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Why does anyone lie? The short answer: because they can, and they've had lots of experience of getting away with it.
blind_otter Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Same reason girls do. Because they are afraid of getting caught. Because they don't want to deal with someone's hurt feelings. Because they are emotionally retarded. Out of habit.
alphamale Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 NAS123, actually it is a fallacy that men lie more than women do. Both sexes lie at about the same rate, which is a lot. It just looks like women lie less cause they are better at it and therefore get away with it more often.

RoxStar Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 I know women lie to but I think some men lie because it makes them feel more powerful. My ex of 10 years would lie about all kinds of crap because he was so insecure. He would tell people he was working on his Masters when he never even got a two year degree. My most recent ex also seems to have a problems with lying. He was also very insecure and lied to get me jealous about stuff. Sometimes he just lied for no reason what so ever. I guess on the other hand women are equally as capable of being deceitful. I know a few women that I have seen lie their pants off (literally)!
alphamale Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Originally posted by ~Naive~ They are men, that's all they are good at Actually, NAIVE, women have much better communication skills than most men therefore they are better at lying and deception in general.
WhereSpiritsRoam Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Most men lie because they don't have the balls to be honest. Most women lie because they are usually good at it, so why change a system that's worked forever?

Author NAS123 Posted March 30, 2005 Author Posted March 30, 2005 Alphamale... You don't have to be rude and call me NAIVE. I have NEVER lied in any of my relationships but have been lied to. Why can't people just be honest and up front?

Author NAS123 Posted March 30, 2005 Author Posted March 30, 2005 oops... sorry Alphamale...I misread your posting...don't hate me
Naive Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Originally posted by alphamale Actually, NAIVE, women have much better communication skills than most men therefore they are better at lying and deception in general. That is why I said that's all THEY are good at (in comparison to other things that they do) and I also said that sometimes they are not even good at that. But of course we are better, like in everything else.
WhereSpiritsRoam Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Originally posted by ~Naive~ But of course we are better, like in everything else. That's not true. We can still belch the alphabet better and blow a fart so loud that it strips paint off the wall.
Pocky Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 I am an awesome liar. My memory is so good that I can create the chain of events that would lead up to the lie and it all fits perfectly. My husband is an awful liar, but he lies more than I do.
tanbark813 Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 I've dated some good liars but luckily my memory has been better than theirs and they always end up slipping up in the details eventually. With patience and attention to detail you will eventually catch any liar.
Donut Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 The best thing to do with a liar is call them on it and watch them squirm. The may even surprise you by being even more convincing and devious! The ****ers! I don't lie much myself cos I'm crap at it, I prefer to be honest, which usually get's me in more trouble.
blind_otter Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 damn i used to be able to lie like a motherf*cker, and then I developed my short term memory disorder from the epilepsy and now i suck at lying. and also tell the same stories over and over again. which is cute at first and eventually ennoying as hell.
alphamale Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 I will tell you why I lie sometimes: - to get a woman into the sack - to get out of a sticky situation - to spare someones feelings (yuck! I hate this one) - to keep people on their toes - to make myself look better - because women expect me to - don't wanna seem like a "nice guy" - it is fun - the thrill of the game and keeping from being found out
Merin Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 Well I agree with the general concensus here that PEOPLE lie for a variety of reasons.. However I will also say this.. (because it's in your orginal post) that IMO once you've broke up with someone or divorced them whatever the case may be.. then it becomes a matter (again IMO) of WHY DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? It doesn't matter if your EXBF/GF has another romantic interest/partner/SO/Bootycall whatever.. this is not vital 411 that I would consider my EX to need and I for real would tell him if he asked me that the person I was now with is named Nunya.. Nunya damn business.
Author NAS123 Posted March 30, 2005 Author Posted March 30, 2005 Merin, Well, I agree with you. But what if they keep asking you? what if you are "friends"?
Merin Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 Originally posted by NAS123 Merin, Well, I agree with you. But what if they keep asking you? what if you are "friends"? Honestly.. I'm *Friends* with my EXH.. I mean we are on good terms, we see each other because we share kids.. but for real no matter how many times he ever asks me IF I'm seeing someone I tell him.. NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. LOL it isn't his concern... I don't ask about his life or who he's with (I don't care) and I don't want him in my business regarding who I'm seeing.
