kellyp1 Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 So, I dated a guy for a year that I really liked but whose life was messed up and we haven't spoken in about 1-1/2 months. Before dating him, I was single for a few years and I am in my early 30's. So, I decided to let my friend talk me into doing Match.com to help me move on and I have been emailing and talking on the phone to a guy that seems pretty cool. I feel strange though. I really let my heart go 100% into this other guy. I know I have to let go which is why I am making this effort but I have a feeling I can't shake about the guy I had dated. I miss him and think of him but at my age, I can't really take a year off to try to eliminate all feelings. What have other 30-somethings in my shoes done? From reading the postings, I know there are others like me. Do you still wait until your heart lets you move on or do you try to force it.

Well KELLYP1, one's heart does not heal itself in one day. It is a progressive healing that takes place over months or years. A man or woman does not just wake up one morning and say "i'm over him/her, OMG!". You may never be 100% over this dude and how will you identify that you are? Dating and meeting others is part of the healing process. Just take baby steps at first.

I guess I would take a year off from my career and try other avenues if I thought I was burnt off. Or go on a permanent vacation and start something new. Or I would stop dating if I was just tired of it all. Or whatever/ I just don't get why you can't afford to take a year off if it stresses you out? ??????
