I have a pretty simple question.

When you've recently broken up with an ex, and they say " there's a chance we will be back together" how do you interpret that?

Thanks!

I'd interpret it at face value. That means there's a chance.

It sounds like you maybe want to get back together more than the person who said this to you. Right?

That happened to me...

I interpreted it as, "If it doesn't work out with this girl or that girl then I'll come back to you as a last resort."

Ha! Yep Bingo! Happy New Year to me!

It's hard to know how to act when someone says that

Posted

Dumpers say that:

1) To save your feelings. It lessens the blow.

2) If it doesn't work out, I hope you'll be there waiting for me.

It's a silly thing to say. If they don't want you now, how do they know that they may want you in the future? Anything can happen. Don't bank on it. Keep moving forward.

This.

The biggest mistake men make is acting wet and going back to the girl that does not really want you. She just likes knowing you as a backup will make sure she is never completely alone.

Never underestimate the power of walking away. It makes you a better man and will display her true colours to you. Keep walking when she does, never look back.

The only reason he would say such thing is because he wants to tell you in a nice way that he is not interested at least for now without hurting you. Also, if he doesn't find someone else he has you to wait for him. But that doesn't mean that something won't happen in the future. You never know what might happen.

My ex said there might be a second chance and got engaged 5 months later. So yeah. . . . But the truth is that it's a crap thing to say, and most people say it bc they want to ease out of the relationship and try out the single life. They need to make sure plan A doesn't fall through. Of course, you are plan B, and they might come back to plan B. But it still doesn't change the fact that you will never be the first choice.

BC is dead-on. Whenever possible in life, do not allow yourself to be treated as an option, only as a priority.

I had an ex say: "If we met in another time, maybe we could work."

He was a jerk. There is no other time after someone dumps you, screws around, makes you feel like **** and then expects you to be there after all this. Screw them and go live your life to the fullest.

Either they want to keep you on the hook if next girl/guy doesn't work out or it's wishful thinking because the wounds are fresh. Ignore breadcrumbs.
