Not a female thing.

I am very fanatical about my knives and keep them very sharp. I want it to slice through like butter. I sharpen them religiously.

Yea. I read that and was like ummm what?!

I think it's simply about that individual person's interest/knowledge about knives and culinary things more broadly regardless of them being a man or woman. Like I said, only one boyfriend I had was a cook and because he enjoyed it he knew lots about all kinds of culinary contraptions and had lots of expensive cookware and knives. The rest were useless in the kitchen or had a couple basic dishes they could make and it wasn't fancy and I'm sure they weren't attentive to the state of their knives one bit.

I'm a great cook and watch lots of cooking shows, love foodie movies, read food blogs, and even participate on cooking forums so I think I'm probably a bit above average in terms of my knowledge about certain culinary things, but admittedly I don't sit around thinking about knives all day. I like sharp knives because I notice they make a difference, but I think men or women who just cook to cook, or even if they enjoy it, may not necessarily pay that much attention to having state of the art knives and only take care of the knives once it poses a problem (i..e is hacking up food instead of cutting).

Yes, well, some need to go looking for gender criticism wherever possible. . . .

I don't need anything special, to me food goes in your mouth and out your butt...not the most riveting experience in my book....

I always find it funny how many people see food like that, when a large proportion of my day revolves around food - planning it, getting excited about it, cooking it, eating it..

I spend so much time thinking about food!
