Funny question .....how many men out there actually know how to cook? I mean, my exH could open a couple of cans of veggies and throw a cut up hot dog in the mix...I mean really cook?

And even more...how many men know how to grill without blowing up the gas grill...(since exH, not met a man yet....just saying)

My guy can really cook - he's made various pasta sauces from scratch with seafood or mince, eye fillet with mushrooms and red wine reduction, scrambled eggs for breakfast, etc. He rarely does due to his schedule, but when he does, he goes all out and it's pretty impressive.

Wow!! He's a keeper for sure!! I've actually learned some of my best recipes from men...either one I have dated that could cook or from watching cooking shows where men cook. (chefs....that is. I could take a guy who is like "Tim Taylor" on the grill if he doesn't get soused between medium and medium well).

Picked hubby up too many times between well done and over done.

My first job i worked my way up from dishwasher to sous chef and have been an enthusiastic home cook ever since and have usually done all the cooking in a relationship. Ironically my experience has been the opposite of yours.. If i could find a woman who could cook more than one decent dish with everything else coming out of a box id be thrilled.

Did you want to cook after you got home though....after cooking for others all night? Generic question (outside of the comment of cooking from a box....nothing tops fresh ingredients).

Yep, my husband is a great cook if I'm supervising and keeping him focussed on the task.

Rofl, funny you mention this! My guy is a huge fan of Gordon Ramsay and Mario Batali. He occasionally watches Heston Blumenthal too, but we both think that guy's recipes are just unrealistic.

Ouch! Such blasphemy to good beef. :(

Luckily i work in investment banking now so cooking is an escape, not an extension of work. I got out of kitchens almost 20 years ago. Lucky girlfriends... Would have been nice to meet a girl who could cook for me without me just humoring her and saying it was good.

Extra virgin olive oil and fresh finely chopped garlic, for almost any recipie. Cook your sauces in hours not minutes on low and not high.

My husband is a great cook, and his dad went to culinary school in his 50s. The only other men I know who cook are from my generation.

I can't get the texture right. I have a difficult time with pastry, too. It's always too sticky to work with easily. Either I end up over flouring and overworking it or it's ugly looking.

Mine can cook and he comes up with some awesome ideas I wouldn't have thought about. I do most of the cooking tho as he works full time but when hes off we alternate here and there. Its so nice hes the 1st guy ive dated who could do that..

Extra virgin olive oil in the pasta water, heat the water to near boil before adding the pasta, dont put it in cold. Add the salt after the pasta, if your in a hurry add more salt dont crank the heat. It should only be a medium boil not hardboil.

With pastry the trick is to use a marble rolling pin that is kept very cold. Freeze it before you work with it, and keep it in the fridge between uses while working the pastry. You want it above freezing but very cold.

Hmm, what I usually do to get al dente texture is just to test a strand close to the recommended cooking time. Rinse and repeat after a minute or so if it's not just right.

An old boyfriend was an excellent cook. When I was in a relationship with him I gained 10 kgs because he kept bringing all kinds of food and sweets and pickles and licquers and coffees when he was experimenting and wanted an opinion. I also had a boyfriend who was a very good cook and didn't realise until he wanted to cook for me chinese. I was astonished and he was also. Finally I had a boyfriend who didn't even know how to boil spaghetti. Not impressed! :p

If a man knows how to make a decent simple meal then I'm good.

I was a very picky eater growing up, so my mom's solution was to teach me how to cook. I'm pretty good at it now and I love to experiment.

Gas is for rookies. Charcoal and wood all the way.
