More of a rant than anything I guess.

26 Male.

No males in my family are bald. We start going gray in our late 30s. My brother is 2 years older and has a full head of hair.

Basically, my hair just started looking VERY thin. I literally noticed it overnight. No matter how I do my hair, I can see portions of my scalp through-ought. I have seen no hair physically fall out (none in bathroom), and there are no balding "spots" per se.

I got a haircut at a new place maybe a week and a half before I noticed. I am praying that the haircut was just terrible and she used the thinning shears too much. In the mean time I switched to a fortifying shampoo.

I guess, should I be worried.

No, I guess you shouldn't.

There's precious little you can do about thinning/hair loss, unless you invest in some pretty expensive remedial measures, beyond the pockets of many...

I suggest you get used to the fact that it MIGHT be happening and have your hair styled accordingly.

These two men are brothers.

One has a full head of hair, the other went prematurely bald.

It happens.

Have a word with a good stylist and see what you can do, but you may need to consider a good, short crop....

the hair loss meds Proscar/finasteride/dutasteride work really well for many and certainly are not out of the reach of the average guy price wise. They block dht from the scalp and are very effective. for some guys though they have problems they block dht in brain and maybe the prostate and can cause bad side effects that can last numerous years (reduced libido, ED, penile shrinkage, reduced orgasm strength, fat loss in face, brain fog). Its up to him if he wants to take a chance on being one of the unlucky 5%.

Rogaine and finisteride along with a cafine or dandruff shampoo will slow down your thinning big time. I wish I would have known about it sooner I am 26 and I shave my head because I am bald in the front

Do thyroid problems run in your family? Are you tired or gaining weight? How is your diet? You might be deficient in something.

Otherwise I'd recommend using Rogaine (minoxidil is the generic) and taking Viviscal tablets. I have used both for years upon recommendation of my hairdresser. My siblings have thinning hair (both sexes) but mine is the same as it always was. It is easier to prevent hair loss than to restore hair once you've lost it. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
