I got abnormal pap smear several months ago. My symptom was bleeding after sex, bleeding unsually during nonperiod time. So I got this abnormal pap smear results with cancerous cell. And then I did colonscopy and biopsy, and the results are normal, no cancerous cell was detected.

How accurate is biopsy results? I got abnormal pap smear almost 8 years ago, ignored it. Now it came back again and with abnormal bleeding. Will my next pap smear abnormal again?

Anybody has same experiences?

Thanks in adance.

I've had abnormal pap smears for quite some time. I've had a colposcopy done (which is what I think you probably had done) and the results came back fine. However, if you're concerned then I would suggest asking your doctor to take another sample and have a different lab administer the test.

I had two abnormal paps involving cancerous cells, however the last one has come back normal.

Repeat both tests in different labs.

I had abnormal cells too. My doc told me that it's more possible to get a false positive than a false negative (meaning that it's more possible for the lab not to detect the abnormal cells than to be wrong about their cancerous nature).

Get a second opinion.

WOW, My 21yr old daughter had an abnormal pap smear a yr ago. Her Dr. didnt follow thru on it...so last month she had another one cuz she was renewing her birth controll; she recieved a phone call at work from the Dr.s office saying her results were abnormal again. She has an appointment 2-morrow. I myself have never had an abnormal pap, so needless to say, Im terrified for her and I do not know what to say to make her feel better. I didnt even know what caused a abnormal pap...and honestly, still dont. I went on-line and as soon as i saw the "C" word I flipped! So I hope this will help me understand. I hope all goes well w/ you...

Are there anyone had the same situation: abnormal papsmear , but normal biopsy, but ended up years later got cervical cancer again?

I had an abnormal pap smear several months back and had a colposcopy. My doctor gave me the option to have the surgery or wait to see if it went away. It seems to possible that it will actually go away. Of course, it can always come back.

I decided to wait. I was getting married and honeymooning and didn't want any irregularities or complications with the surgery. And there wasn't enough healing time between the surgery and my honeymoon night.

My husband and I made a committment to pray like crazy about it in hopes that it'd be gone. I had my repeat pap about a month or so ago, and it came out totally normal.

So pray! You never know!! But I'm not going to be oblivious to the fact that it could DEFINITELY come back. Good luck to you!

I have been having irregular papsmears for several years now. Two years ago I had the treatment where they freeze your inside part to shed off most of the pre-cancerous cells.

My follow up still showed abnormal. They tell me to come back every six months to do another pap and it is getting worse and worse - so do some doctors just wait until you get cancer to actively and more agressively treat it?

I have gone to more than one doctor - One said it was 'normal' but they are part of a terrible HMO who tries to cut costs on procedures and whenever I go to the free clinic - 3 different ones - they have all said it is abnormal but to "wait and see"... they did the freezing procedure too and seem better than the HMO who I cannot afford to go to anymore.

Anyone with experience re: abnormal pap smears and what to do?? I'm in my 30s and my mom had ovarian cancer when she was a few years older so I am scared just "waiting" to see what I hope won't turn to cancer eventually.
