Okay, so I am almost finished my AA degree at a community college. However, I can't pass remedial math and move on to regular math. The remedial class is algebra and I can't pass it. I took the class online and my final was in person. I just don't know what to do? If I transfer can I take this remedial math at another college? Do remedial courses transfer? Thanks

No class that you failed transfers.

You can probably take the course again at another school, assuming you can get your AA without passing this. If you can't get your AA, find somewhere to take the class in person. See the professor weekly. Go to free help centers on campus AND consider hiring a tutor at your own expense.

I have struggled with math my whole life. My undergraduate degree is from a well known university but I took most of my math requirements over the summers at my local community college so they wouldn't adversely affect my GPA

I can relate to you on this whole math thing. I had to take college algebra two times. Not remedial though, the real deal, lol. I hate math with a passion,lol..The second time I took it the professor made everything so SIMPLE! I was so proud of myself, lol. But yes,you can take the remedial course at another college, especially since that's a general requirement for any degree. I would suggest getting a tutor at whatever college you attend. It will be truly beneficial. You don't want to keep wasting your time, money, and energy on taking this class repeatedly. Good luck to you.

I meant if I was able to pass with the course transfer? I can't get my AA without it, I would have to transfer without it. Thank you for your advice.

I don't understand your Q / point.

As I said, I didn't like math either so instead of taking it at the university where I got my BA, I took it in the summers at community college where it was easier. Because for my major math was part of my basic requirements, the credits transferred but the grade didn't & I was able to fulfill my basic requirements. I would not have been allowed to transfer credits from courses in my major.

Many schools accept credits from other schools as long as they are not in your major. To find out what institutions your school will accept credits from, you have to talk to your advisor.

If you need this math to get your AA but all the courses you did take transfer to the 4 year school, you may as well move on without the AA. Years from now if you have a BA or BS nobody will care that you don't have an AA. If your new school offers the math class & your old school will accept it, perhaps you can get it later.

The best people to ask are your school counselors. Each school policy is different and they are better equipped to give you specific answers to your questions. We can only guess.

Set up a meeting with an academic counselor or whoever the equivalent person is at your school and discuss your options about passing the course, transferring etc. They know all the rules and logistics of doing so.

I do know though that a failing grade does not transfer, since a failed grade is no credit. It will be on your transcript but you cannot receive credit for it if you failed.
