FitChick Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I just went through this. You can cancel your subscription or membership but your profile will be hidden and all information kept for a year. Fine if you want to reactivate. If not, I suggest deleting all photos and all but the headline and minimum number of characters in the main body. Also change all information regarding your age, location, height, weight, etc. to make it opposite to who you are. I changed the type of man I was looking for as well. I thought I had cancelled but still got messages because my subscription officially was still open another day. Match wants to 'pad' the number of members in their database so they won't let go of you easily. I wonder how many couples have broken up over one person thinking their partner was still on the site! 1
contact1 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Well a good way to keep yourself from being messaged is to magically gain 300 pounds in the profile
insert_name Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) The whole website wants shutting down, not just your profile- its a total scam, at least for men. Ive paid for two months worth of subscriptions sent 11 messages and had no replies. To put that in context, I have sent 30 messages on ok cupid and had dates with 4 women. From reading the vast number of scathing reviews it seems Im also not the only person who has done okay on other sites and yet got absolutely no return from a Match subscription. Judging by the number crunching that was done on the number of paid profiles v total number of profiles you have to send 10 messages just to guarantee that you have sent a message to at least 1 profile that is active and capable of messaging back! I can't believe the gall of their business model that a subscription just gives you access to a list of names with no guarantee that they can even reply to you, if you want to ensure they can reply that will be more $$$. So I would advise people who are in the business of initiating that they should be very wary indeed of paying for a match subscription, it can literally be like setting fire to £30 for all the benefit you will get out of it. Hell, even setting fire to it would keep you warm for a few minutes in the winter which is more than match would be willing to give you. Edited December 31, 2014 by insert_name 1

There is no reason for any OLD website to charge subscription money when they can run ads on the sides and/or top of the screen. I can definitely understand an optional subscription with bonus features to help a website out in addition to profits from ads, but mandatory subscription fees are gonna be bogus.
Author FitChick Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 I just got an email saying my new profile was approved! Grrr! But when I searched for myself it said 'username not found.' That's really all I needed to know.
BlueIris Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Take down your photos, change your age to 95, change your description to "not looking, in a relationship" copied and pasted over and over to fill the character minimum, move the emails to spam so you don't accidentally open them on your phone, and then hide or disable it. Works every time.
Gloria25 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Yea, OLD websites are manipulative and crappy. They keep your stuff up there to entice others...I often wonder if they send out e-mails to them too after you shut down your profile. I mean, cuz I get bombarded with e-mails saying guys are interested. Sometimes I think its cuz they send out e-mails or stuff with my info and/or no one really is interested, they just want you to renew your membership. Match is really terrible too...years ago - not sure if it still happens - but you'll click on an "active" profile and after you pay the membership and/or try to send a message "poof" person gone and/or profile was really inactive. I mean, some OLD sites won't even let you see the last time someone last logged in and/or if they are paying members (because sometimes you cannot communicate with them unless they pay) until you pay. All sucks to me.
