What's the etiquette, is it something telegraphed ahead, do you ask to do it or do you just grab them at midnight? Is there any significance to it? Can it offend if not welcome regardless of the spirit? Forewarned is forearmed, and all. Does the fact I'm asking suggest I should just stay away from the whole idea and sit down at 11.59?
d0nnivain Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 A peck on the cheek or even the lips at midnight is a social convention. You don't have to ask ahead of time. If this will be your 1st kiss with the person, I wouldn't expect too much in a room full of people.
somedude81 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Sigh, I have never had a New Years kiss. Last year could have happened but I got dumped in early December. This year I actually have a woman I could kiss but she's on the other side of the state.

It was non-romantic, essentially, and I think the guy was either drunk, or had been prodded to show some attraction to me, for whatever reason. I was embarrassed, but everyone saw him trying, and were laughing and encouraging me to kiss him. This year, I will kiss the top of my dog's head, and it will be good enough for me.

Call me crazy, but you don't just kiss a random stranger at midnight. You kiss the person you're with. A date. A significant other.
