Hi been going through a tough time just recently after being separated from my wife of 17 years, I am in counselling and my GP has been very good to me, I am on 45mgs mirtazapine daily, 10 mgs buspirone x 3 times per day and also 1 x atenolol everyday just to get through each day, they are keeping me quite calm but obviously the waves come over me but what prescribed meds are anyone else on to cope with your heartache ?

I stopped taking pills months ago. Still have drinks, and hit the gym. I'm actually in the best shape of my life right now. She was shocked when I saw her this past weekend. Yep...I look good! :D

Vitamin D & taking walks every day.

That is a whole lot of meds. Way more than an occasional half a Xanax or a valium to help you cope.

You need to get info about prescription meds from a doctor with input from a pharmacist. Anecdotal stories on the internet are of no meaningful assistance to you.

If you haven't been on anti depressants before then 45mgs of mirtazipine is a hell of a way to blast you in there. Also be careful about weight gain on those!

I echo the need for you to speak to a medical professional if you feel you are over medicated. And no pill will be able to take things away completely. They just keep you more stable, or should anyway, so you can process through it.

I also signed up for Judo at an mma academy. She always talked about how she wants to punch people for doing stupid things. I'm gonna imagine its her im punching.

Hi all thanks for replying, I don't feel over medicated if anything I feel under medicated and would happily take a whole lot more of anything if it meant taking this feeling of sadness loss and pain away, had a bad night sleep dreamt about her quite a bit and that's even after the mirtazapine at bedtime

Be careful. The best way to get rid of grief & sadness is to experience them & get through your period of mourning the loss. If you want to heal you have to let your feelings happy.

The drugs deal with chemical imbalances in the long term. There is no pill to make you happy in the short run.

Ralf it sounds like you are really struggling and I am sending you hugs.

As d0nnivain said, no pill on earth will make you happy, they will just numb or lessen some of the depressive symptoms caused by chemical imbalances in the brain.

Honestly, please speak to your GP about getting some counselling or therapy - this should, in my opinion, ALWAYS be provided in conjunction with AD's. To often pills are handed out like sweets but they don;t address the problem, only band aid over it.

There are also some great charities that may be able to help such as Mind. Please think about it, and perhaps read up on depression and the positive effect talking to a counsellor or therapist can have. If it makes you feel better, I do it and I don;t suffer from depression - it just helps me process negative feelings better so I can become more positive.

HI WB I am in counselling and have been for around 2 months or so and have 6 more sessions lined up, I found out about it via MIND, it doesn't stop me feeling depressed though, my counsellor thinks I am doing well but I often feel as though she is just humouring me, thing is I miss my wife we did everything together and part of the hurt is her changing from the lovely person to some knind of stranger person not like the knid gentle person I married, I hope she is hurting too because she deserves to after the way she treated me, can couples get back together after months apart ? and if so how does it happen I wonder ?, it would be the answer to all my problems I would be the happiest man in the world to get our life back, we had such lovely times together and our holidays were fab, we narrowed down 4 or 5 places that we really loved and built our holidays around them in places like Germany, France, Malta, Belgium, Italy, such happy times and such wonderful places we experienced together I miss that and feel asthough it will never happen again for me, such a waste of 20 years and nothing much to show for it.
