DazedandConfused8 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Random observation over the past two weeks: there has been a huge spike (in my opinion at least) in women signing up for online dating. I think this is because: a) there are a few heartless *********s (men and women) who break up during the Christmas holidays so they can flirt/sleep around during company parties, Christmas/New Years' parties, etc. b) women visit with friends and family more, bringing on thoughts of loneliness/ageing and sadness. They begin questioning where they're going, why they're single, their previous relationship(s), and take the leap to try finding someone new (don't take this as an insult, I don't mean it that way). What do you think? Have you noticed the same? Are you one of the women above? Comments welcome Edited December 30, 2014 by DazedandConfused8
BluEyeL Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 People stay home and have time to sit on their computers. They also start with the new year's resolutions already.
Diezel Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Spike? I noticed there is usually a lull between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. The spike happens right AFTER Christmas up until Valentine's Day. 1
Mirages Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Yes the few studies done on such speak of January-Feb being strong, and weakening thru the summer. A hypothesis from economics: From Christmas till Tax return season (for Americans), there is a lot of time for dating, not much to do outside in the cold, but the money is often very short having been spent over December. However being that the holiday season stifled dating significantly, the sites stay more active despite economics. It is like shutting an interstate for 4 hours, when opened, don't care if it's midnight, the traffic will be heavy for 2 hrs... That is Christmas to OLD, a highway closure. April 15, most Americans receive a return and suddenly can spend on dating. But soon it is warm enough that "Kooped up in front of computer," does not describe as many people. After Sept, the numbers just die down, it seems like a period of "Invest in what you have, what you must attend to for the holidays," Finding someone new is not a priority. The excess nonsense of buying stuff and depleting funds causes many to hold back. Likewise the seasonal surge in retail, logistics, and many industries from Sept to Jan, means more work, no time. I expect the OLD season to start strong within a week, at my locale, it has not yet opened up, but for a few.
FitChick Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I stay off the sites until after Valentine's Day. Too many newbies catalog shopping.
D.Mc. Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Hi Dazed&Confused8, I only wish there was a spike in MEN signing up or being more active on OLD, sighhhh....
Frank2thepoint Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I only wish there was a spike in MEN signing up or being more active on OLD, sighhhh.... Be careful for what you wish for. I'm considering re-joining OLD soon to start some trouble. 1
Eddy Street Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I haven't noticed this. I went on match before Chistmas and saw the same faces and my profile was still dead, no winks, no views, no nothing. Maybe this happens in the higher age ranges.

Eddy Street Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Check out your competition. Then you will know what you are up against. Physical changes are within your control. I know, but genes aren't. When I lied and said I was 2 inches taller and that I had black hair and hazel eyes, I got 5 messages per week. Then I started telling the truth again and my profile died.
