Hence it is definitely not the same as an OM. You know it isn't really but are either questioning your past actions and what you call them in an attempt to maybe ease your guilt. Or the MW is trying to play it all down and make it seem harmless so you will continue. I can understand why you would do this. As for her doing it - manipulation to get her way is key here.
