spanishchick00 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I went to the movies with my family and we rode in separate cars. As I was backing up my car, this older man and this "little kid" came up and the man told me the was from california and needed a ride to wal-mart. Well, the store was only a 15 minute walk and the area I was at-is considered a popular place, where anyone could easily catch a cab. I was like wth? Was he a psycho or something? I would never give a ride to a stranger, much less when there's a "little kid" presence. That's how people get kidnapped, they always think its safe when there's a little kid involved.
Gloria25 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 OH heck no.... I'm sorry, but in this day and age, they might be using the kid as a ruse to get your sympathy to harm you. Actually, I heard in the news like a few weeks ago a guy/gal combo robbed someone at a Walmart parking lot. 1
carhill Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Last person who asked me for a ride was a young lady who looked visibly scared and disheveled wandering by the side of the road and related that her BF had dumped her (I found her about three miles from town) and it was around 11:30pm and I was heading home from a job. Back then there were no cell phones so I took her back to my place to call her friends and then back to a friend's house in town. Nowadays I'm far more cynical about women but back then I was a good samaritan and wasn't looking for evil around every corner so she got home safe and I wasn't robbed and murdered and life went on. I don't think anyone has asked me for a ride since. That was about 25 years ago. When in doubt, always err on the side of safety. Weird world out there. 1
thefooloftheyear Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 About two years ago, I stopped in a 7-11 to get a drink.... As I was leaving and approaching my truck, two young girls(16-17) asked me if I would give them a ride....Now, Id never harm these kids, but here I am a 225 lb, tatted up guy that well...doesnt look like your the Pastor at the local church... Anyway, I told them no, and was about to ask them why dont they call their parents,? but instead just kinda chided them to never ask a strange man for a ride...It might be your last..and I left.. Seemed very weird...Maybe it was harmless, but no way in hell I was going anywhere near that.. TFY
Tayken Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 You have to be careful for who you pick up these days....you just never know, and them looking innocent should not cloud your judgement. 3
Els Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I'd always, always say no. My safety is more important than anyone getting to any place. If they looked genuine and desperate I'd give them some money for a bus or cab. Even if it's a scam I'd just be out $20 instead of putting my life on the line.
