Els Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Your culture doesn't have bachelor parties? Where are you from? One of the Asian countries. I came from the city so yes, there was some Western influence and young people did have bachelor parties and hen's nights. Strippers in such parties weren't the norm though, and stripping wasn't even legal there. Usually they just hung out with their buddies and had some drinks. Same with the girls, though with the girls there was more focus on girly stuff (gifts of lingerie, sexy-themed candy, etc ). Edited December 17, 2014 by Elswyth 1

Lol, makes me wonder if at bridal showers they hand out bathrobes and granny panties instead of lingerie and sexy stuff... You know, I've given lingerie to gfs who had husbands coming back from deployment...the "gift" that keeps on giving!!!
MissBee Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Oh gosh no, I'd never have a bridal shower - I think that's as brutal as a wedding. I've been to a couple of baby showers and all you do is sit there, have some food, try to make conversations, play a few games, and watch her open gifts. You pretty much are watching your clock and praying for it to end. While I'm not keen on the stripper thing, I'd be out on the town with the girls with the whole tiara, drinks, and fun. I guess I'm more of a "glamour"/Sex and the City chick. I like the lights, the excitement!!! It's totally up to each person's preference. I've been to bridal showers and baby showers and all of them have been fun for me! I can't relate to sitting there and wanting it to end. At the bridal showers there was tons of food, drinks, games, gag gifts to open, stories, lots of laughing and fun...it was a great time all around. It would also be among my good friends and female family members, people I like and would hang out with anyway, so it would be like any other time we're together except it's centered around me being a bride. I don't see how it would be torturous unless I am inviting folks I don't like to sit around and have an awkward time with.

I mean, if I ever get invited to one, I'll probably shock them all and get her some Fredericks of Hollywood. Can you imagine the faces when she pulls out "that" gift Eh, they'd probably treat it as a "gag" gift cuz they'd be uncomfortable and I'd probably, with a glass of wine from wine I brought, would give them a serious look and be like "No, it's not a joke".
thefooloftheyear Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Been to a bunch....eh...its just a tradition.... There have been strippers and pro's at most...But, for the most part, the prospective groom is too tanked up to do anything, so the guests and/or the best man usually get to reap the benefits....what the hell, they are paying for it, so no point letting it go to waste..... Oh, and let me just add this...A buddy of mine used to do bachelorette parties.....Ill spare the details, but a lot of naughty ladies there, including some grannies... TFY

Yea the one's I've been to lingerie, lube, edible underwear, sex books were given as well as it was hilarious and slightly awkward some of the marital sex tips from already married and older women there. Who is the "they" you're talking about? Are you imagining your own friends? Do you have particularly prudish and uptight friends you're referring to specifically? It seems like your assumption is that "they" would be uncomfortable and you'll be the only non-uptight one. If so, then it makes sense for you why you find it all stiff and awkward. But for me, the one's I've been to though, people were normal and open and it was very fun. It wasn't some weird tea with your granny while we all extended our pinky fingers and ate cucumber sandwiches and spoke in hushed voices. 2

TFY I went to one and the raunchiest women were the ones who were virgins on their wedding night and had only ever had sex with their husbands, probably with the lights out. Jaw dropping antics...

I had a bachlorette trip but it was just me, my sister, and friends going to the beach. We went to a bar one night and to do some dancing but had nothing to do with men. There were a few risky decorations at the house, a penis cake, etc. but it wasn't much of anything. It is personal preference and for me it was more about female bonding. Same for my husband's trip. I am not into some of the silly stuff and since we were older it wasn't like anyone was a blushing virgin or anything. So just trips for some friend bonding. No silly games, risky behavior, or copious drinking. Just not our style. These things are whatever you make them to be. 1
