Do you buy a Christmas present to someone you've been dating for 5 weeks? Would that be expected? Thanks.

You should if you want to make it week six.

Yes, of course! If I like them I'll give them a present, at least a small one.

I think it's a nice gesture, but I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it and/or be cheap.

Of course. Just something small and thoughtful.

I'd been with my current partner five days officially when my birthday came around, although dating a few weeks before that. He got me a rare CD online I'd mentioned I'd wanted to try, but couldn't find. And he took me out for dinner. Perfect.

My BF and I were dating about 2 months last Christmas. We didn't give each other gifts, but gave each others kids gifts.

I suppose if neither of us had kids I would have gotten him something just because.

Give for the sake of giving and don't expect anything in return unless you talk about it in advance.

Absolutely but I'd give chocolate, booze, a pound of their favorite coffee, or a scarf. Cost: around $20 - $30 & not too personal but a nice gesture.

Good thing I asked then! Thanks guys. I'll probably go with some kind of goodie basket. Maybe chocolates or soaps or something like that. What do you guys think of a cute stuffed animal? She loves elephants. That's why I ask.

I think a small elephant would be adorable. Do not go over board.

I wouldn't be dating someone who expected gifts, ever, and sure, I've given appropriate gifts at the holidays, or for a birthday, to women I've been dating for that length of time.

It can be holiday themed. Does she have a tree or decorate her apartment for Christmas? A nice ornament or charming display might be nice. She'd think of you every Christmas whether you were with her or not.

A 2015 wall calendar with her favorite theme, i.e. cats, flowers, naked firemen, with days marked off for future dates with her, your birthday, your anniversary, etc.

Knitted scarf and gloves set.

Nothing expensive.

Thank you all for the ideas :)

I buy small Xmas gifts for any women I have a remotely warm relationship that I'll see near Xmas. It's not exactly going to upset them is it.

I'm in the exact same boat at 5 weeks and was wondering the consensus myself.

I think a small gift is appropriate, like the others have suggested.

I was thinking of getting my guy a book about a musician he liked and we have enjoyed together.

So I found this really cute stuffed elephant on amazon and I just bought it. It's about 10x10 inches. Do you guys think I should buy some chocolates and put them all together in a pretty bag or just the stuffed animal is fine?

Posted

yes if you care about them....deb

I was about to post the exact same question! Even the number of weeks is the same. I'm ordering a cute, girly apron online - she made dinner for me one time and I made jokes about how next time she should wear just underwear and an apron and she said "I dont even have an apron".

I like the elephant man! Shows you've been listening. I'd just go with that though - no need for chocolates and a bunch of stuff. Considering there is a good chance they won't be getting us anything, you don't want them to feel worse about how much stuff you did.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was thinking so I'm just going to give her the elephant. I think the chocolate might be a little overboard since I'm not expecting anything from her and I don't want her to feel bad. I like the apron idea, it's funny!

Have you thought about a gift card from Victoria Secrets?

Give her the gift that keeps giving! :bunny:

Give the person you are dating a boring picture of you together in a frame that says "FRIENDS" in big bold letters....then sit back and watch the hamster in their heads spin...and spin...and spin

Um..elephant lover here too.. (how wrong does that sound!)

There are tonnes..literally tonnes of elephant type gifts so take a look around.

I particularly love small wooden elephants. I have never yet found a good elephant cuddly toy type of thing that looks 'right'.

Suss out what type of elephant things she likes if you can. Some like cartoony type/cute, some like real looking and some like a mixture of both.

And - really importantly - (to us elephant fans) don't buy one with it's trunk pointing down as it's bad luck. The trunk should be pointing upwards. Though, before I knew this I did get a few with trunks down..all elephants need love. :)

ETA: just saw your other post - sounds just fine!

5 weeks in? How many times have you seen this girl?

I don't know that I'd be going overboard. I wouldn't be spending anything over $20 probably. 5 weeks in is probably circa Date #5.

Thanks for the info! The trunk is pointing to the left so I think I'm safe haha!

We've seen each other 6 times in those 5 weeks and yes I'm not going overboard. I'm just going to give her the elephant and put it in a nice bag. Thought of giving her some chocolates as well but maybe that's a little too much.
