Cicerone Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 My lovely lady and I have been talking about getting engaged now for a while. We both want it and feel it would be right. He's even told her previously he'd be okay with us getting engaged. So now, I'm taking that step. Call me old-fashioned, though I'm asking her Father for his blessing. We both have a lot in common, especially career wise. We get a long well, often share a nice glass of whiskey or beer together, and hang out every so often. Now I'm wondering how to ask for his blessing. I've never done this before and would like to seek out some experiences from you other gentleman or ladies who know what your guy has done. Where did you ask? Over a dinner between you two? Just alone at his house? How did you bring it up?
xUnknown Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 I've never been in this situation - I'm 23. But, I've dated this one girl for 3 years (we've since broken up)... but her dad hinted at me one time that he'd be OK with it. Another girl (who I've been family friends with and we've both had feelings for each other for years) essentially told me he'd be okay with it one night when we were talking about his daughter about 4 months ago. At Thanksgiving, her mom and I talked about her daughter as well (how I'm the only one in her life and had serious feelings for ect). She too pretty much said it flat out in our conversation. So, I think the fact that he said he would be okay with it, gives you the right to go for it right then and there. But, I see where you're coming from about wanting to ask to make it "official". I would suggest something casual. Does he golf? Go golf with him. Something you know he'll enjoy. A "man-date". Wing night? grab a beer and bring it up there. Those are just my thoughts.
