Have you ever refused to kiss a person on a date because they had bad breath?

I went out with this guy and the attraction was there, he told me he wanted to kiss me all night, he started kissing me, but I had to stop him a few times and gave him some excuses because he had bad breath. Unfortunately, I didn't have my breath mints with me-because certainly I would have had one and at least I wouldn't have to taste his breath. I was bummed out about not wanting to make out with him. Was I being mean?

No. Bad breath is definitely a deal breaker.

Many years ago I went out with a guy and every time he opened his mouth the stench of death came out. This was not the kind of stench that brushing, mints, or gum would fix. I played shy and ducked kissing him for our first few dates because I didn't know how to bring it up. If he had a medical problem I didn't want to embarrass him, but I also didn't think I could just plug my nose either. Turns out he refused to ever go to the dentist and that stench was coming from all the cavities and bacteria in his mouth and he was adamant that brushing was all he needed to do. Clearly I disagreed and stopped seeing him.

That's happened to me and I couldn't get out of it

I don't get how some people could miss that. I'm usually checking my breath and stuff. I carry mints, and sometimes a travel/mini toothbrush and paste (usually to work).

Yeah, I usually carry mints in my purse, but for that day, I forgot it. I know everyone has bad breath after eating or something, but if I go out on a date, I brush my teeth beforehand and put a mint in.

I carry an entire mouth kit in my purse containing: toothbrush, floss, brushing rinse (also doubles as mouthwash), and mints. I even have lipgloss with mint in it to help freshen my breath. If you have absolutely nothing with you then at the very least rinse your mouth with water a few times to swish out stuck food and swipe a mint or parsley sprig from the dinner to chew on.

Urgh yes, two guys I dated who were with me for between two days to a week, had met them online and it was our first time meeting in person, turned out had horrible breath. Jesus it was bad. It was so hard, especially as they were staying with me, I kinda went from being snuggled up to them face to face to it kinda getting bad the second or third day, only allowing them to spoon me, I'd kinda make hints about us brushing our teeth before sex but even when they did it was still bad. I felt really bad but didn't feel like I could tell them, I never saw them again.

I too don't get how people can miss that kind of thing. I'm always making sure my breath is fine, and even if I can't (for example if it's morning sex and we haven't got outta bed yet) I'm also conscious of not mouth-breathing on somebody, so I'll breathe through my nose and stuff. It's a total lack of self awareness on someone's part and so hard to manage without offending someone hugely.

No, but I never went on a second date with a man whose personal scent I didn't like after hugging him (he wasn't even smelly, I just found it unattractive).

When I dated a smoker I would often refuse kisses due to his breath.

Smokers and coffee drinkers are the worst.

No bloody way!!! Bad teeth, bad breath.....YUCK! Not only is it gross but it is bad for YOUR health. If they are not taking care of their oral hygiene, they can pass bacteria to your mouth thru kissing. I don't feel guilty at all. I would refuse to kiss my ex husband as his breath was horrible and he hated going to the dentist. People can die from bad teeth. Don't put your mouth anywhere near his!!!
