Nostalgic Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Hi guys, I was just wondering if any of you know of a dietary supplement that really works and is safe. I've been fabulous with sticking to my workout schedule--an hour to an hour and a half 4--5 times a week and watching what I eat but the process is soooo slow. I'm becoming nicely toned but noticed that I'm not getting any smaller (trying to lose approx. 12 lbs). This is so frustrating, It's been over a month! Shouldn't I be at least 1 dress size smaller??? Sorry I got off track, I just had to vent. But anyway, I want something to help speed the process along a bit. Any suggestions?
moimeme Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 You're talking about working out but not about eating. What have you done to change your eating style? If you're still packing in burgers, don't expect miracles.
jellybean Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Hi Nostalgic.... Yes, it IS so frustrating, but I believe it's supposed to be a slow process because that is the safest, healthiest way. You are doing everthing right ....and I am certain you will achieve the results you desire, in time. About dietary supplements : I tryed high-fibre capsules from the health store. They work by giving you a filled-up feeling, so you eat a little less...and also they work as a natural laxative. This might give you the 'jump-start' you want to speed things along a little. Good luck
Author Nostalgic Posted March 20, 2005 Author Posted March 20, 2005 hmm, fiber caps huh? Thanks Jellybean Ill look into it. Moi, I have changed my eating habits--somethings I just eliminated altogether like fast food and regular potato chips. Any other junk I do have is in moderation. I don't know, sometimes I worry that maybe I'm not eating enough--dont starve myself or anything crazy like that but I heard that sometimes you need to eat more to rev up your metabolism.........but obviously not all the time..........see my confusion??? Excersise is the only thing I'm sure I'm doing right. Not gonna stop cause I enjoy it but I dont wanna waste time either... geez, I'd hate to follow Anna Nicole Smith on anything but Trimspa maybe??
moimeme Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 sometimes you need to eat more to rev up your metabolism.........but obviously not all the time.......... I think someone recently suggested you eat an extra couple hundred calories every few days just so your metabolism doesn't get 'used to' your calorie intake. Makes sense to me.
LexiB Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I don't know how good Trimspa really is, Hydroxycut works tho.
tiki Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I'm on my third day on Phentermine, but it's a prescription diet pill, and it doesn't sound like you need to lose the much.
tanbark813 Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I use S.A.N. Tight occasionally. It gives you a boost of energy but you don't feel totally wired. It tends to increase anxiety levels though. http://www.bodybuilding.com has a lot of good info. It's not just a site about bodybuilding, they have tips and supplement reviews related to weight loss as well.
tiki Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Also, there's fitday dot com. It's a free site for keeping track of all of your calories/carbs/exercise and stuff. I like it a lot! You can do reports too that show your progress or where you are getting the most carbs (etc) from.
sami Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Please do that first. Don't take in anything in your syastem w/o consulting your doctor.
poister Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Another consideration is the type of exercise you're doing. You either didn't specify or I didn't catch it, but cardio and strength training do different things. Strength training builds muscle, which many women shy away from because they don't want to "bulk up." The truth though is that very few women are actually able to get muscularly large, and strength training has a lot of benefits. Specifically, it will usually help prevent injuries during other activities (e.g., if your core muscles are stronger, you have better posture and are less likely to hurt your back), and more particularly to your situation, the resting metabolic requirements of muscular tissue is considerably higher than that of other tissues - in other words, an equivalent amount of muscle burns more calories than other types of tissues. The point is that if you're only doing cardio, throw in some strength training. Also, never exercise in the morning without having eaten in the morning, even if it's only half an apple. Good luck reaching your goal!
Author Nostalgic Posted March 26, 2005 Author Posted March 26, 2005 Thanx alot for your replies guys. I have made an appt. w/ a trainer/nutritionist to figure out if I'm doing anything wrong or if I'm actually going at the right pace for my body and just need more patience. btw, Poister, The excersie routine I'm doing incorporates strength training and cardio (lovin my Tae Bo ) but I think I will start setting aside 20 mins or so a few days a week just for strength training. Tanbark813, I have checked out that site before! very good info, I agree. Tiki, no I don't need to lose that much. Actually, b/c of my height (5'9'') my weight is pretty evenly distributed so most ppl think I am in shape already. I just want to lose the 12-15 lbs to tighten up, you know? That's really why everything is so frustrating. I thought this was a relatively small goal that would have been at least half-way met by now--over a month later. In the mean time(before the appt.) I've started following alot of the nutrition tips on ediets.com--another very good site. Thanks again everyone!
