frozengirl Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Have any of you ever noticed that when a guy goes over to a girls house to pick her up, he waits for her in his car, instead of getting off and walking up to the door to meet her? Why do guys do this? What happened to the old fashioned way of getting off, walking to the door, meeting the parents sort of thing on a date.
greenman77 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I went to pick up a girl for a second date recently and even though she lived in a building I still parked and got out of the car and opened her door. Without really thinking about it. I did good! I think... 3
ascendotum Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Why do guys do this? Women are very capable & independent these days and don't need the guy to escort them to the car. Many also don't necessarily like having the guy they are dating meet their parents, until he makes it to the bf stage. I'm sure also some guy's hope sitting in the car waiting will help to hustle the girl out the door, rather if they go in there will be distractions and an interview with the parents, and the girl might take longer to get ready if he is sitting on the sofa.
shet Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This isn't a men thing, it's a people thing. This is what picking anyone up is now. The advent of phones has made parking up and struggling to find an unfamiliar house and door redundant. We can roll to a stop with lights on and engine running somewhere we know is nearby because of GPS, call/text the pickup you're there, and they come out and find you.
todreaminblue Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 (edited) i think its lovely when a guy opens the car door......or knocks on the door instead of honking his horn impatiently.......most men i have dated have done this......i dont think its says anything about my independence i can do things for myself....i just like to see a guy caring enough to do those things....it does make a difference in how i view them.....i dont expect it done everytime and i always say thank you when they do once a guy held a door open for me.....for me to enter first...he looked surprised a bit confused actually...because i flashed him the biggest smile and said thanks ...he said i should do this more often.....and smiled back...didnt know the guy from a bar of soap....... old classy manners.....need to be appreciated and not taken for granted...women should be appreciative of men who give them respectful little ways..they really are quite special and need to be instilled as good to have rather than a chore that goes unrecognised.....some women dont care .....i am one who does...and I do notice......and i appreciate seeing them ....reminds me of my grandfathers....and they were definitely old school..for my daughters....i hope they find old school in their lives....needs to be bought back and not forgotten.......deb Edited November 29, 2014 by todreaminblue 1

I guess cause meeting a girls parents can potentially be awkward or make a guy nervous.
phineas Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Well, if you are meeting the guys on POF... I'm actually wrapping my brain over picking a girl up. I haven't done that since online dating became popular. Although I have gone to pick a woman up and she wasn't home. I do get out of the car & I do open the door. but I'm 42 and if my mom heard I didn't she'd give me wot for then twist my ear off.
FitChick Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I am a practical person who drives. I live on a street where it's hard for even the residents to find parking. I've had guys park their car and put their emergency flashers on while they came to get me. I tell them to just call when they have arrived and I'll come out. Don't want them getting shot if they block someone's car!
