Hi all,

What cool or imaginative gifts have you made yourself to send to your loved one ??

May be helpful to us guys trying to impress or let the other half know we still spend time soley on them !!!

I know it makes a difference for me, I am an Englishman however my chinese near-fiancee (official rating as per moi) is 6000 miles away.

when my guy was working in Saudi Arabia and I was in Texas, I used to clip all the goofy stuff I'd find in the local newspaper because I knew he'd find the same thing to laugh at!

later, after we married and he worked away from home, I'd send care baskets with funny vending machine stickers or toys, small one-serving packs of flavored coffee, or stuff I thought he might find handy.

what does she like? does she collect anything? that might give you an idea of what to make and send her. My one girlfriend who lives across state is very artistic, and from time to time she'll send little cards or notepads she's created by decoupaging stuff on them. Nothing expensive, but they look pretty dang fancy. She also creates cards from scrap materials like old cards or lace/fabric, and they're pretty dang cool ...

I did a song for my boyfriend from the U.S. I have a studio and did everything on my own ( lyrics, melody, recorded it, sang it, and arranged it). Now I am doing another one, cuz that's what I do. Hence my username. He also wanted me to record some of the famous songs he liked. He loves music. Some (authentic) could be found at Irenasongs. Not selling anything whatsoever.

When trying to find ways to show you love someone, I try to use a bit of imagination, understanding my loved ones needs and likes, and a bit of variety.

I've sent books, online cards, real snail-mail cards, poems, mp3 songs with lyrics attached in email, newspaper articles, online articles, and essentially maximized both email and snail-mail methods.

I've also done some artwork (sketches of the two of us), sent him a photographic artbook on my country, written beautiful love letters on gorgeous linen paper, and did piano recordings of my playing.

I also did a "day in the life" presentation, where I took a digital camera and took pictures of me throughout the day (waking up, walking the dog, taking out the trash, driving into work, getting coffee with colleagues, in meetings, getting gas, going to a movie with a friend, taking a bath, making dinner, reading a book), and incorporated it into a powerpoint presentation with messages and comments throughout my day. He loved it. Said it made him feel like a "fly on the wall".

Then I did other powerpoint presentations of a medley of pictures snowshoeing with my dogs, with lyrics of the song "let it snow" attached.

Then, after one trip, I did another powerpoint presentation with sound quotes from his favorite funny movie and pictures of the two of us together.

So, in sum, lots of pics, lots of variety, lots of effort. Hope this helps. If you want more ideas, go to http://scripts.lovingyou.com/mdb/search.cgi?mdb=ideas&cat=ldr&pg=1&rec=10 where you will find hundreds of ideas.

Good luck, and let us know what you plan on doing first.

My husband loved this one, I did it for him two weeks ago. I typed up a bunch of phrases and printed them. I cut them out and folded them. I placed them in a decorative mason jar for my husband. He can read one each day. He can carry in his pocket all day long if he wishes. He can keep his favorite ones. But he can only read one a day!

Matty, I am just being curious...you said "near-fiancee". Does that mean that you plan to propose to her, but haven't proposed yet? Does she know that you have plans for her? Will that be a surprise (the proposal)?

Just wanted to know how guys (or at least one guy) plans the future with someone they're in love with, that lives far away. My boyfriend from the US and I have been dating for 6 months and saw each other 3 times in person (20 days total). I would like him to propose to me as soon as possible cuz my kids start school in 5 months and I want the move to be for them as much easy as it can be. But most of all I can't wait to start living with him. He talks about our future, but hasn't proposed yet. I even asked him about his plans and told him he may lose me if he plays around with me, but he didn't give me any specific answer. I know he wants to be with me and is head over heals in love (just like me). He just can't understand that the surprise means nothing to me. I want to know that he is mine. And the thing that keeps my heart so warm is that I see us in the future.

So what do you think from a man's perspective? How long have you been dating your GF? When will you propose and what prevents you from proposing right now?

i made him a pack of condoms once.

well, i adapted a pack of trojans. bit of a cheat.

he once said that one of the nicknames i have for him sounded like a brand of condoms. so i bought a box (cool twisty-headed ones they are :) ) and kind of glued new artwork on the front and back of the box using some graphics to put his face and his nickname on it and included a pic of a big tree we find funny and then i added something from gulliver's travels... :o

maybe you had to be there but it was wicked as f*ck. but only if you're one of the two of us.

the point is, i made him something only he would find hilarious that only i could have made. whatever else i've done for him or made for him or sent him, this remains his favourite gift.
