Dating is hard because more people are set in their ways?

I got into a discussion with one of my co-workers about dating and the like, as he's single as well.

He says that, esp. after people reach a certain age after either a marriage or a slew of relationships under their belt that most have become too set in their ways to continue with any substantial relationship in the future.

No wiggle room, no ebb and flow doesn't seem to be allowed among those like mid-30's and older, wouldn't you say?

I'd say mid 30s leaves room for some change and compromise.

Based on my own scientific studies, I'd put the exact age of this irreversible state at 43.

You can't generalize and say that's always true because it depends on the basic personality. For example, a good friend of mine has always been easy to live with and easy going and tolerant and tries to be flexible because that's her personality. I, on the other hand, have been set in my ways since I was 18, as my mother told me, and it's true. Now in my elder years, it is hard for me to fathom being able to meld my life with someone else's though I'm always up for just going and having a good time. Even the thought of someone bringing say a couple of pieces of furniture into my home just isn't going to work. People like me who have always known what they wanted about everything are harder to live with because we have a clear path and our personality has developed to get us down that path. Theoretically, you could find the right match, as a friend of mine did, but it does make it harder. We're just not as flexible and we like the way we are.

I think it all depends on the person.

I'm living alone right now but I have had 6 different lodgers sharing my house with me.

I've always been pretty easy going though.
