I have never dated someone who was disabled or had serious disabilities like mental retardation, wheelchair, deaf, blind, etc.

But this one guy I am talking too currently via texting says he's deaf but how do I know for sure? I'm not saying he's a liar but a lot of people do say stuff or make up stuff to get into your pants or to make you feel sorry for them or other methods to mess with your head.

What should I do? Have any of you ever dated someone with a condition like one of these or other issues?

Meet him in person...Make an excuse to go the bathroom or whatever...Stand behind him and call his name out...If he reacts you have your answer.

People wouldn't make up that some sort of stuff as it's off putting to many,I fell in love with a guy who had cp(cerebral palsy) ,he wasn't retarded on anything he just had muscle problems etc.i didn't care in the slightest.

Its pretty hard to fake being deaf. Not being able to hear yourself speak generally gives you a noticeable accent of sorts.

As I've said so many times before.

You dont know someone until you meet them in real life.

There is absolutely no substitute

I feel that people with disabilities are more vulnerable to hurt and being used than the other way around...i think its horrible to do either.....to pretend you have a disability or to fool around with someone who does......its cruel...as another poster said meeting people in real life is the only way...

i dated a disabled guy and he was a real sweet heart......just wasnt right for me....he ended it ...........deb

Well him and I texted/webcammed over Skype so he is who he says he is and he is deaf, he did some sign language via webcam, but he also had this to say

"I can speak but not perfect like you just 50 percent or less?? Haha"

I used to work with elite athletes with disabilities and occasionally I'd go there if they were hot enough :p

Relatively speaking if the guy can talk then you shouldn't have too many issues, just make sure you look at him when you want to say something to him.

Yeah he does want us to meet so we're going to see when we can. I just hope I don't screw this up, I have never dated a deaf person or met someone.
