Most people will tell you just to move on. Well meaning family and friends will give that kind of simple advice but the thing is you won't move on until you have done what you feel you need to do to get closure in your own mind. Only then will you be able to truly let go and be free to date someone new. Forgiveness is an essential part for any relationship to work and people make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. And not all dumpers are at fault for the breakup either. If the dumpee was neglecting his girlfriend or taking her for granted then he may have to swallow some pride in order to have a chance at getting her back.
