So I was reading an article actually a few on a few sites about how people who get married under 25 have a higher chance of divorce, something like 60% of people who get married between 20-25 will get divorced. I personally kind of hope it's true because it'll be funny to see all the idiots from high school who are married, get divorced. The thing is if people know this why would try do it? I guess specifically educated people, lower educated people I can understand why they do it but for people who know the stats, why?

Well OP, you know this now- so does knowing the stats make you want to marry any less?

If I get married at 25 then the stats are in my favor :)

Since I will be 24 in 2 months and have no boyfriend the chances of me getting married at 25 or after are pretty high compared to under 25

Well, I actually hear from sources that it's usually not a wise move because there's an important decision making part of your brain that isn't fully developed until you approach the late 20's/30.

There's also facebook, too. Everyone's posting their engagement rings on facebook, which just creates more female/male envy by 'rubbing it in'. Then they feel the need to go ahead and jump the broom as well. Then they post their rings/baby bumps on facebook as well.

Humans like keeping up with each other. This is one example where it's kind of scary.

I start to wonder if marriage is becoming more of a 'trend', than a serious vow. But then again, divorce rates already support that theory.

But you would have gotten married under 25 if you had the chance.

Most the people I know who married in their early 20s are Mormon

Well it isn't going to happen now is it? So I guess I will have to settle for 25.

And yes it is, VERY strong. :)

It's more a maturity thing then an age thing. Young people tend to get married because they are "in love" without thinking about the long term, compatibility & finances. When you are young, underemployed, & trying to pay back student loans having kids adds a ton of strain to a fragile relationship & leads to divorce.

I personally think that folk who are so bothered about what others do as opposed to focusing on their own life are the most likely to get divorced.

I don't think theres anything funny about a failed marriage but theres some definite irony in folk who are so judgmental about others private lives being unable to hold their own together.

Because you have to be uneducated to marry young!? Yeah, or maybe you have to be more down to earth or family orientated.. less head in the clouds..........but then again, that would be making a sweeping statement wouldn't it! ;)

100% of lives end in death

Why bother taking another breath?

Some people prefer to live life as it comes to them without constantly taking a step back to analyze ever data set available and using it to inform their decision. Too much of that can lead to catastrophe. Too little of it can lead to paralysis. We each find the "Goldilocks" zone on our own through experiences and it's our temperament coupled with our life experiences that determine on which end of the spectrum we start off from.

A 60% failure rate is rather low when it comes to major life decisions

Haha oh you're mad huh??

I am saying that less educated people might not know the "stats" they may not have the resources to find out so they just think "Oh I am so in love let me get married at 19". I mean I have a feeling the 20 year old girl on Honey Boo Boo who is married isn't like... the most educated on stats.. other girls in her position probably aren't either. Whereas educated people know the stats, I took a Hum Dev class where we spent a **** ton of time talking about how the brain isn't fully developed until 25 and rushing into major choices before 25 is not the best idea.

As far as the divorce comment... don't care. I will laugh when it happens ;)

They're idiots? But I thought you really wanted to marry young and now you're afraid you're getting old?

Anyhoo, younger people get divorced because they were immature and had no real idea of what marriage was going to require.

Just because one fills their wall with a few degrees doesn't necessarily mean they are smart or have any common sense. Also, doing a quick google search regarding divorce stats could be done by any moron with a high school (or not) diploma, so it's a naive to think only "educated" individuals have access to this information.

Now, to your question. The divorce rate is at 50% and I can only speculate that that number goes up with emotionally immature, financially precarious individuals. Sure, that group might defy the odds, but sure would be a hard road, one I wouldn't recommend for my adult children. I'd think to hedge your bets you'd want to be in the best possible situation before heading down the aisle, and certainly before bringing children into the mix.

I married in my 20's, and we made it for 29 years before we mutually threw in the towel. Marriage it tough, and it's work. It's not all magical and filled with fairies. Something I don't think most 20 year olds get. I didn't.

I was 27 when I got married but she was 22. She changed a lot in her late 20's and left when she was 30. Getting married young isn't a guarantee that it will end in divorce but yes I believe the odds are higher. I think most people get married thinking it won't happen to them. I do know several people who got married before they were 25 and they are still together. Even with somebody you are compatible with and you love there will be times you will have to work together to keep a marriage going. I think more than just a certain age it is how fast people mature and if they can compromise when the time comes.

Statistically, marriage at young age is associated with higher divorce rate. But there are still success stories.

Anecdotally, I married at 20, over 20 years ago, and I thank my young self for recognizing and appreciating a good man when I found him. Ours is a true love story. It isn't infrequent for me to meet other couples with similar stories, and I also know plenty of divorced couples, too.

Basing your life's decisions on statistics has an 87% chance of making you really boring :-/

We'll never know until 20 years later which marriages will succeed.

Many people told us we were crazy! :lmao:
